First, I see conflicting dates as some say this is May 22nd and some say May 23rd, (so if you yould confirm which one that would be great!)

after 17 hours of flying it'll be a bit of a bummer if we find everything shut on the first night.

We were on one of the islands before where the rule was no booze on sale after 7pm, we knew in advance and managed fine of course, but reading online now has me wondering if bangkok will be even stricter than that and what we should expect? Thanks all in advance!

yeah it's the 22nd this year, confirmed. the alcohol ban is real but it's not like martial law or anything. 7-elevens will have the shutters half down on the coolers, restaurants in malls will serve food but no beer. your best bet for the first night is a hotel with a room service menu that has booze, some places get around it by having it on the "mini bar" list. or hit up a late-night food spot like the roti mats near sukhumvit 38, they'll be open and you can still eat well, just no singha with it. honestly after 17 hours you'll probably just want a shower and bed anyway

The date is May 22nd this year. Alcohol sales stop at midnight the night before, so if you land late on the 21st you might squeeze in a drink at your hotel bar, but by the morning of the 22nd you won't find beer at 7-Eleven or anywhere else until after midnight. A lot of the big tourist spots like Khao San Road and Nana will still have people walking around, but the bars will be dark and the street vendors selling cocktails will be gone. I'd plan to grab food at a mall food court like Terminal 21 or Siam Paragon, those stay open normal hours, then maybe do a rooftop walk or just crash early after the flight.

Check the official government calendar for the exact date but its usually the full moon day. Bars will be shut and no booze sales but you can still find food and walk around. Its a bit of a drag your first night but not the end of the world.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
