Where in BKK for a week or month?

I am a retired USA ex-pat now living in Mexico when I'm not traveling. I'm coming to SE Asia to look for a new retirement home base. I'm landing in BKK and can stay for up to 60 days I believe. I'm not seriously considering Thailand, as other countries seem to be easier with more amenities to my life style. I plan to visit Cambodia, the Philippines, and Malaysia (maybe Viet Nam) on this trip. I might even go to South Korea or Japan for some baseball. Anyway, my question for you is more about my upcoming (end of May) trip to BKK. I'm looking for suggestions regarding where to stay and for how long. I prefer somewhat modern amenities and if there is a neighborhood that has craft bars and is less hectic than the city center. I have been to BKK for a few days maybe 10-15 years ago. While I'm from New York City, Bangkok seemed a little more frantic. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Is anything going on from like May 25 - June 25?

yeah thong lo is solid but honestly for a month i'd look at ari instead. it's got that leafy soi vibe, a few craft spots like jaywalkers and some decent coffee, and you're on the bts skytrain so easy to get around without the full-on khaosan chaos. nothing huge happening in late may to late june, just the rainy season kicking in so pack a light jacket and expect afternoon downpours

Ari is a good shout but I'd also check out Phra Khanong. It's got that mix of older Bangkok charm with some newer condo buildings and a decent little craft beer scene around W District. For a month, I'd probably do two weeks there and then head to the river area on the other side for a different vibe, maybe a hotel with a pool to escape the heat when it gets bad.

If you want less frantic but still with craft bars and modern amenities, look at Ekkamai or Thong Lo. They're a bit east of the center, more of a local expat and Thai creative crowd, and you'll find places like Mikkeller and Brewski for proper craft beer. For a month, I'd split your time maybe two weeks there and then a week somewhere like Ari, which is also chill but has a different vibe with more indie cafes and a weekend market feel. Nothing major event-wise in that window aside from the usual rainy season start, but the Asiatique night market and some rooftop bars are fine for evenings when it pours.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
