In-patient Medically assisted (Librium) detox from alcohol in bangkok? Does this exist?

Thanks Thanks
arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

yeah it exists, most of the bigger private hospitals here do it. bnh hospital on soi convent has a solid addiction program, they'll put you on a librium taper for 5-7 days inpatient. costs around 50-60k baht for the week last i checked, which is steep but you get a private room and proper monitoring

samitivej sukumvit also does it but their psych ward feels more like a hotel tbh. if you're on a budget check out the government hospitals like rama or siriraj, they have detox wards too but you'll be sharing a room and the process is slower. just call ahead and ask for the "substance abuse clinic", most english speakers there will know what librium detox means

You could try the detox ward at Thonburi Hospital. It's a bit out of the center near the western edge of town, but they do the Librium protocol for about 15k baht and the English speaking staff there is pretty decent. Just call their international department and ask about the inpatient alcohol detox program.

honestly you don't have to go full private if the price scares you. bma general hospital on ratchawithi road has a detox unit that's legit, they use librium too but it's like 10k baht for a week. just bring a thai speaker or use google translate when you call, the staff's english is hit or miss there

another option is bangkok christian hospital on silom, they're kind of in between price wise. around 25k baht for 5 days last time i checked, and their addiction program is pretty structured with group therapy thrown in. the rooms are basic but clean, and nurses actually check on you every few hours

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
