Hi all,

We're in Bangkok for our anniversary in a couple of days time.

I'm looking for a recommendation for a top quality restaurant that provides a great experience in terms of food quality and overall service?

Would prefer Thai cuisine... When in Rome and all that.

Cheers all.

You might want to look at R-Haan on Sukhumvit 53. It's a bit newer than some of the heavy hitters but they focus on royal Thai cuisine, which is a different angle from the southern style at Sorn. The tasting menu runs around 4,500 baht and they do a great job explaining each dish's origin. The space is quiet and elegant, not too stuffy.

If you're open to something less formal but still special, try Saawaan on Soi Suan Plu. They do a 10-course journey through Thailand's regions for about 2,500 baht. The open kitchen lets you watch the team work and the sommelier knows their natural wines well. Both spots need a reservation at least a few days out.

tbh if you want the full bangkok fine dining experience with thai flavors, i'd book a table at Sorn. it's in a quiet alley off Sukhumvit 26, super hard to get a reservation but worth the hassle. the 14-course tasting menu runs about 6,000 baht per person which is steep but the level of detail with southern thai ingredients is insane.

another solid option is Baan Phadthai on Charoen Krung road. not as fancy as Sorn but the vibe is more intimate and the pad thai wrapped in egg net is probably the best i've had in the city. service is warm and personal, feels less like a production and more like a proper dinner.

either way, book ahead. walk-ins at the top spots are a long shot here

honestly if you want something a bit more lowkey but still really special, check out 100 Mahaseth on Maha Set Road. it's not thai food per se but they do incredible nose-to-tail cooking with local ingredients, the vibe is super relaxed and the staff are genuinely nice. for actual thai cuisine though, i'd skip the super hyped places and try Sri Trat on Sukhumvit 33, they focus on eastern thai food from Trat province. the crab curry with coconut milk is unreal and it's way easier to get a table than Sorn

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
