How much would you spend on rent if you made 110k a month?

I'd like to save 20k a month, enjoy life and travel every 2 month. Wondering if spending 30k on rent would be too much. I'd like to save 20k a month, enjoy life and travel every 2 month. Wondering if spending 30k on rent would be too much.

been in your shoes with a similar salary and i'd say 30k is tight but not impossible if you're strategic. the trick is finding a place where the rent includes the things you'd pay for separately anyway - some condos in the rattanakosin area near sanam chai station have dirt cheap electricity rates and free parking which saves you 3-4k a month compared to sukhumvit buildings. also consider that a 30k place in bangkok often means you're paying for a pool you'll use twice and a gym with broken treadmills, while a 25k place in an older building near a proper park like benchakitti gives you better quality of life for less. those flights to chiang rai or phnom penh every two months are gonna cost you around 8k per trip so factor that into your monthly average and suddenly 25k on rent feels a lot smarter than 30k

huh that 30k figure keeps coming up but i think people are missing the real constraint which is the travel every 2 months. even budget trips to vietnam or laos run you 12-15k once you factor in flights and a few nice meals. if you're serious about that pace, i'd push rent down to 18-20k and look at the older towers along ratchada near sutthisan. you can get a 40sqm 1br for that price, the mrt gets you anywhere in 20 mins, and the street food around there is legit. the difference between a 30k condo and a 20k condo is usually just newer cabinets and a marginally better view, not actual quality of life

30k on rent from 110k is doable but you are going to feel it. After tax and social security you are probably taking home around 85k, so that leaves you with 35k for everything else after savings. That covers food and a few nice dinners out in Sukhumvit but you would have to watch your baht on those travel months. I would aim closer to 25k for rent and keep the extra 5k in your pocket for the weekend trips.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
