Anyone have recommendations for a good yakiniku place?

I wanted to take my family out to yakiniku and I was trying to find a good place, all recommendations are welcome! I wanted to take my family out to yakiniku and I was trying to find a good place, all recommendations are welcome!

moo kata route is fun but if ur family wants the real japanese bbq experience check out the rooftop one at central world, forgot the name but it's on the 7th floor near the cinema. sunset view over the city while grilling is pretty unbeatable, and they got a kids play corner so the little ones can burn off energy between rounds. prices are mid range, like 800 a head for the premium set, but the atmosphere makes it feel fancier than it costs. just go on a clear day, the smog can kill the vibe otherwise.

honestly for a family outing i'd skip the chains and hit up watami on sukhumvit 33, it's tucked in a lil alley but the wagyu set for two is a steal at around 1500 baht. the vibe is more relaxed than shintani, less touristy, and they got good kids portions too. just call ahead on weekends, they only got like 8 tables and it fills up with locals fast.

or if you're up for a bit of a drive, yakiniku jumbo in ekkamai is a bit old school but the charcoal grills make a huge diff, meat gets that smoky char you don't get with gas. parking's a pain though, so grab a grab if you can. kids'll love watching the staff flip the meat tableside.

Ekkamai Soi 12 has a place called Yakiniku Yamato that nobody seems to bring up. It's been there for years, mostly a Japanese expat crowd, and the owner imports his own beef so the marbling is noticeably better than the chains. The house special is the kalbi with garlic soy, and they do a really solid tongue that they slice thin enough to cook in like ten seconds. It's not cheap, around 1200 to 1500 per person if you go with the sets, but the kids get free ice cream at the end which buys you another twenty minutes of peace. Book a table on the ground floor, the upstairs gets a bit stuffy when the grills are all going.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
