I've found those Indian restaurants in lower Sukhumvit to be awful-to-average at best; certainly any 'vindaloo' on the menu hasn't impressed.

Any recommendations?

third option is solid but if you're out that way anyway, there's a little hole called Goa Pocha on Soi 23 near the old customs house. they do a vindaloo that's more like the portuguese-influenced macanese version, heavy on the vinegar and garlic with whole spices floating in it. not for everyone but if you want something different from the usual curry house stuff, it's worth a try. they also have feni if you're feeling adventurous

ngl Tiffy's is the answer everyone gives but if you're already down Charoen Krung try the food court at River City. third floor, tiny stall called Amma's Kitchen, they do a pork vindaloo on weekends that's closer to what you'd get in Goa than anything else I've had here. it's like 120 baht and comes with that proper potato-heavy gravy, not the watery stuff. get there before 1pm or they sell out

honestly skip the Sukhumvit spots and head to Charoen Krung. there's a place called Tiffy's on Soi 42 that does a proper Goan-style vindaloo, not the British pub version. it's got that real vinegar kick with the heat, not just chilli powder masquerading as spice. they're tucked in a shophouse near the river, cash only and they close by 9 so go early

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
