Where would i go if i want those type of clothes and dont want to break bank but want decent enough quality?

skip chatuchak for this honestly, too touristy and the sizing is a gamble. head to platinum fashion mall but go to the upper floors, the lower ones are all that fake gucci stuff. you'll find loose cargos and boxy tees around 200-400 baht if u dig through the piles, quality is hit or miss but fine for the price.

better yet, walk over to pratunam market's side streets, there's a few shops near petchaburi soi 21 that stock local streetwear brands, kinda like oversized cuts but not the cheap screen print feel. also check out baiyoke sky hotel area at night, the stalls there have more of that alt vibe, think muted colors and baggy fits, just haggle a bit.

if u want something slightly nicer without going mall brand, try the "siam square one" basement level, there's a tiny shop called "friday" that does decent cotton tees with weird graphics, around 500 baht. not designer, just cool. honestly for backpacker budget, pratunam is ur best bet, just wash everything twice before wearing

honestly for that baggy alt look check out the weekend night market at srinagarindra train market, bit of a trek on the bts to on nut then a taxi but worth it. the stalls near the back have actual local brands doing oversized tees and carpenter pants, not the mass produced stuff u see in pratunam. prices around 300 to 600 baht and the quality holds up way better through washes.

also dont sleep on the thrift racks at union mall, floor 2 has a section of japanese and korean imports, loose fits and weird cuts that fit that vibe perfectly. u can find some gems for like 200 baht but u gotta dig and check for stains. i found a dope pair of wide leg trousers there last month.

if ur near khaosan anyway, walk to soi rambuttri and hit the small vintage stalls, they got that faded band tee energy but more of the muted tone stuff. just check the seams before buying, some of that is thin af.

The market under the Bobae Tower near the old city is where I'd point you if you want that carpenter pant and oversized tee look without the Pratunam crowds. It's more of a wholesale spot so the sellers are less interested in haggling for one piece, but the stock leans heavily toward loose, boxy cuts that Thai factory workers actually wear, which means the cotton is thicker and the stitching holds up. You can find solid basics for 150 to 300 baht if you're willing to sort through the bundles.

For the alternative edge, hit the weekend market at Chatuchak but skip the main aisles and go to the soi 24/2 area near the antique section. There's a cluster of young Thai designers selling unisex pieces with raw hems and dropped shoulders, more like 500 to 800 baht but the fabric quality is noticeably better than the tourist stalls. I've bought a few oversized shirts there that still look sharp after a year of hostel washing machines.

One thing nobody mentions is the fabric weight. In Bangkok's heat, a lot of that cheap baggy stuff is paper thin and will be see-through by the second wear. Feel for a heavier cotton or a cotton-linen blend, even if it costs an extra hundred baht. You'll thank yourself when you're not sweating through your shirt on a night bus.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
