Surprisingly, nobody got injured. But the guy on the scooter made it out.

Soi Cowboy gets a police chase every few months, usually it's a kid on a borrowed Honda Wave with no plates. The fact that he made it out means they probably lost him around Sukhumvit 23 where the sois get tight and there's too much foot traffic to keep the chase going. I'd steer clear of that stretch after midnight on weekends, the soi is only about 150 meters long and there's nowhere to dive if something like that happens again.

Cowboy sits right on the edge of Watthana and Khlong Toei districts, so you get two different patrol zones bumping into each other around there. Half the chases you see on that strip started somewhere else entirely, usually a checkpoint dodger coming off Asok or a kid who ran the wrong light on Ratchadaphisek and panicked. The scooters that actually make it out almost always cut left toward the Thermae side and vanish into the little sub-sois off Sukhumvit 21, cops won't follow bikes into those dead ends at night.

The police rarely actually pursue anyone down Cowboy itself. What you probably saw was a patrol from Thonglor or Asoke who picked up the chase on Sukhumvit and followed him in before thinking better of it. There's a reason the guys on the corners with the signs usually just watch and let them pass, a crash in that alley would mean ambulances stuck on Sukhumvit for twenty minutes. If you want to see real enforcement, sit near the Asok intersection around 2am on a Friday, that's when they set up the checkpoint and the scooters all turn around at once.

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
