I already tried the Apple Store but they don't know what's wrong and their standard answer appears to be replacing the motherboard.

Kind of want to see if someone can actually repair it without replacing the core component of the device lol.

Anyone know a place? Thanks in advance.

yeah the apple store is useless for anything beyond warranty swaps lol. if fortune town feels too chaotic, there's a spot in the pantip plaza, 2nd floor, called "iStudio Repair" (not the official istudio btw). they do actual microsoldering, like reballing chips and fixing traces. fixed a charging port issue on my 2019 pro for 1800, apple wanted 20k+ for a new logic board. they also test everything in front of you with a multimeter, which is nice. just know they're slow, expect 2-3 days minimum, and they close by 6pm sharp.

one thing nobody mentioned: bring your macbook with the battery fully drained if you can. some of these shops will charge you extra if they have to discharge it themselves to work on the board safely. learned that the hard way once. also snap a photo of your serial number and the bottom case before you hand it over, just in case they swap parts.

honestly skip the big malls for this, head to fortune town on ratchadaphisek, floor 4 or 5. there's a bunch of small shops that do board-level repair, not just swap parts. i've had luck with a place called "macfix" near the escalator, they actually fixed a liquid damage issue for like 3000 baht when apple quoted 30k. just make sure they show u the problem on a microscope before they start, some of them will try to upsell u a new logic board anyway. also bring the device in the morning, they get busy and turn stuff around in a day or two, not a week.

Fortune Town is the right call, everyone knows that, but I'd add that you should also consider the shops on the ground floor near the food court entrance. There's a guy who works mostly on Apple stuff, no fancy sign, just a counter with a microscope. He's slower than the upper floor places, usually takes 3 to 4 days, but he's the one I trust for anything involving the logic board. He actually diagnosed a failing SSD controller on my M1 Air that two other shops missed, charged 4,500 baht and it's been solid for a year since. Also, whatever you do, get a written quote before he starts, and confirm they'll call you with the price before doing any work beyond diagnosis.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
