First time in BKK - where to go shopping for clothes, trainers etc?

the replies already covered the main spots but nobody mentioned fort town mall, it's near victory monument bts and it's basically a whole building of sportswear shops. mostly legit stuff but some stores have the good reps mixed in, you just gotta ask "have copy" and they'll pull out a drawer. the prices are better than mbk because there's more competition between shops in the same building

For sneakers, you should check out the sneaker section at Terminal 21 Asoke. Each floor has a different city theme but the London floor has a few shops that carry legit hype releases and some decent reps mixed in. The prices are better than Paragon because the rent is lower.

For clothes, skip the malls and go straight to the Platinum Fashion Mall, it's connected to Pratunam but way more organized. Go to floors 4 and 5 for the wholesale stalls where you can buy single pieces at almost wholesale price if you act like you're buying bulk. The quality varies a lot so check the stitching before you hand over cash.

If you want something more unique, take the BTS to Ari and walk around Soi Ari. There's a few small boutique shops like Samsen Street Hotel's shop that sell actual Thai designer pieces for around 800-1500 baht. Way better than the mass produced stuff you'll find everywhere else.

honestly skip the mall shopping for clothes unless you want the exact same stuff you'd get back home. for trainers specifically check out the sneaker street market near Siam Square soi 5 on weekends, there's guys selling legit limited editions alongside solid reps and you can actually compare them side by side. for everyday clothes I'd hit Chatuchak on a saturday morning before it gets hot, the section near soi 3/2 has some decent vintage and unbranded stuff that looks way better than the pratunam knockoffs. just bring cash and wear light clothes, you'll be wading through crowds

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
