Is Chatuchak weekend market actually open Wednesday to Sunday like google says? Or just Friday to Sunday?
honestly the weekday thing is technically real but it's a totally different vibe. the wednesday to friday stuff is mostly wholesale plants and some fabric stalls near the back, not the main market area tourists go to.
i live nearby and even i don't bother going on weekdays unless i need specific gardening stuff. the real market with the vintage clothes and food court only runs saturday and sunday, and saturday morning is way better before the heat hits. try the coconut ice cream near section 2 if u go, it's 50 baht and way better than the chain places.
yeah google's being generous, it's really just saturday and sunday for the full experience. wednesday and thursday you'll find a handful of wholesale fabric shops open near the main entrance on kamphaeng phet 2 road but it's not the market you're looking for. friday night market is a separate thing on the same grounds, more food and clothes stalls but maybe 10% of the weekend size. if you're here on a weekday go check out talad rot fai srinakarin instead, that's actually open thursday to sunday and feels closer to the old chatuchak energy
yeah the plant section is open wed-thu but it's mostly wholesale stuff for vendors, not really for browsing. if u want the full chaos of clothes, food, and antiques, saturday is the day. friday is a bit quieter but still good if u hate crowds
best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026
yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
