Hi, all!

I'm heading to Bangkok (first time!) in a few weeks and am staying at a hostel in Silom.

How safe is it to walk around at night? Reason being, my hostel is pretty close to a ton of cool restaurants/markets/party strips I want to check out, and ordering a cab from those places back to my hostel seems a little ridiculous if it's walkable.

That being said, I'd definitely recommend that someone visiting my home country take a cab back, even if their accommodation is close by. So, wondering if that's the case in Bangkok too.

yeah silom's pretty safe to walk around even late, just stick to the main roads and you'll be fine. the soi 11 area near the end of silom has a 7-eleven open 24hrs and a few late night food carts if you get hungry on the walk back. just don't wander into the smaller sois off silom after midnight, some of those get a bit sketchy with stray dogs and darker spots

silom's fine, honestly safer than most big city nightlife areas. the main road has 7-elevens open 24hrs and security guards posted outside most banks and condos, so there's eyes everywhere. the only thing that'll get u is the uneven pavement after dark, watch ur step near the soi 2 end where the tiles are broken from all the street food carts. if ur hostel's near the bts chong nonsi end it's quieter but still fine, just less foot traffic after 11pm compared to the silom complex side

yeah silom's fine at night, especially around the main road and soi 4 where the nightlife is. tons of people out until late, street food stalls open, 7-elevens everywhere. just be smart in the smaller sois off silom like soi 3 or soi 6, they can get quiet fast and a bit sketchy after midnight. also, if you're near the sala daeng bts station, walking back from patpong or the bars on silom soi 2 is a breeze, no cab needed. i'd say it's safer than most us cities honestly

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
