Often they don't let in foreigners. One time the bouncer at the entrance said in Korean to my Korean friend we don't let in foreigner. Or they ask for a password when clearly people don't take it with them when going out (risk of loosing it). So I want to know, why korean club and bar owner have this rules?

It's partly about the deposit system. A lot of clubs operate on a card-based entry where you leave your ID or a deposit at the door, and if a foreigner leaves without settling their tab or causes damage, the club has no easy way to track them down. Korean IDs have a national registry number that makes it simple to follow up, but a passport from another country is much harder to pursue. Some places just don't want that headache.

If you want to avoid this, skip the clubs near Gangnam Station exit 10 and head to the bars around Sinsa-dong or Gyeongnidan-gil instead. Those areas are used to a mixed crowd and won't give you the password runaround.

honestly it's a mix of things and not always about racism or whatever. some clubs just don't want to deal with drunk foreigners causing trouble or being loud, especially in smaller spots where the vibe is more local. there's also the whole "foreigner = likely to leave without paying or cause a scene" stereotype some owners have, which is dumb but real.

another angle is that a lot of these clubs run on a "membership" or referral system, even if it's fake. they say you need a password or a Korean phone number just to filter out randoms, and foreigners are easier to turn away since they can't argue back in Korean. if you really want in, try going with a Korean friend who's a regular there, or hit up spots in Itaewon or Hongdae where they're used to a mixed crowd.

ngl it's partly about the deposit system too. a lot of clubs take a deposit at the door that you get back if you don't cause trouble, but foreigners often don't carry cash or understand the system, so bouncers just skip the hassle. try clubbing in areas like Kyungridan or near Hapjeong station where they're more chill about it, and bring some cash just in case. the password thing is usually just a lazy filter, not a real membership thing

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!
arrow_drop_up 15 arrow_drop_down

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

arrow_drop_up 24 arrow_drop_down

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
