I'm planning on travelling solo to seoul for a month, any tips?

I'm a minor but saved enough money to afford to do some travelling but this would be my first international solo trip,

do you guys have any tips before I go?

honestly first solo trip at your age is gonna be wild in a good way. since you're a minor just make sure you have your accommodation locked in and a working phone plan before you land, navigating without data is a pain. for a month in seoul you should def get a T-money card at any convenience store, it works for buses and subways and you can reload it anywhere. also check out the hongdae area for cheap food and shops, the street food there is way more affordable than myeongdong and just as good imo.

the other person is right about the hotel thing, that's gonna be your biggest hurdle. some places in hongdae or guesthouses might be chill if u email them first and explain the situation but don't count on it.

for a month you'll save a ton loading up a t-money card at any convenience store, buses and subway are cheap and easy. also if you're under 18 the curfew for kids is 10pm at some pc bangs and noraebang but nobody really checks unless you're causing trouble.

my main tip is hit up the free walking tours in gyeongbokgung area, they run a few times a day and the guides are locals who know all the back alleys. also download papago before u go, naver maps works better than google maps here for walking directions.

tbh a month is a solid amount of time, you can actually settle in a bit instead of rushing around. if you're a minor just be aware that some hostels and guesthouses might have age restrictions, so double check before booking. for food, download the app "Mango Plate" it's way better than google maps for finding places to eat and you can filter by budget.

since you're solo and young, join a few free walking tours early on the ones in bukchon and around gyeongbokgung are decent for meeting other travelers your age. also the subway runs til like midnight or 1am depending on the line, but the buses run later so learn a couple bus routes near where you're staying. and honestly, don't sleep on the jimjilbangs (bathhouses) for a cheap place to crash if you ever end up out late, they're like 15,000 won for overnight and you get a sauna too.

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!
arrow_drop_up 15 arrow_drop_down

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
