Syanel bar cover charge 2026: is 25,000 won normal?

Is that a standard cover for a cocktail bar there or are we getting the tourist rate? Just want to know before I commit.

That's the Hongdae rate, not a tourist markup.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

More like the Seochon or Euljiro rate these days, since even the smaller cocktail bars there have crept up to 20 to 25.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Hapjeong too, same 20 to 25 range

25,000 won is on the higher side for a cocktail bar cover here, though places in Cheongdam and Apgujeong do charge that and it usually goes to the drink minimum anyway. If the quoted amount is fully credited toward drinks, I wouldn't call it a tourist rate.

If you want the real check, ask whether the credit applies per visit or gets eaten if you cancel, that's where these places sting you.

Right, and the credit usually applies to the table minimum, not per head, so confirm they aren't double counting. Also check whether the 25,000 is per person on top of a bottle minimum, since some places stack both.

arrow_drop_up -4 arrow_drop_down

Agreed on the credit point. The other thing to check is weekday vs weekend: many places in Sinsa and Itaewon bump the cover or set a higher table minimum on Friday and Saturday. A 25,000 quote for a Tuesday is a different deal than for a Saturday.

Holiday eve is the real trap, covers jump.

Garosu-gil side street spots run the same.

Just pay at the bar, simpler.

Honestly the Cheorwon plain near the DMZ is teh real one, cranes and geese in winter, and the Civilian Control Zone tours run from Dongseoul. Spring is quieter for birds but you get frogs and early warblers. Book the tour bus ahead, it fills up.

Image sophia local ·

yeah and if trains are easier, take the Gyeongchun line to Gapyeong for the cormorants along the Bukhan, though spring floods can wash that out.

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

Image janet local ·

good call on booking ahead, and pack binoculars cuz the tour buses dont lend them out and the hides are far from teh birds

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

The crane season peaks late January, so if you want real numbers rather than frogs, shift your trip earlier than spring.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Winter is really the draw there, spring is more of a maybe. Check the tour schedule before you commit since dates shift.

Crane numbers at the Cheorwon pyeongya depend on ice cover, so a mild season can scatter them before the tours even start.

arrow_drop_up 16 arrow_drop_down

ice cover varies by field, so ask which paddy they mean

arrow_drop_up -1 arrow_drop_down

mild years push the flocks north to the Imjin mouth instead, so check sightings boards before booking anything
