tbh the mosquito situation at Ichonjigu is no joke, it's been like that for years. If you're going back, try hitting the field right after a rain shower, the little bastards seem to chill out for a bit. Also, there's a convenience store near Yongsan Station exit 4 that sells this local spray called "Moszero" which actually works better than DEET in my experience, it's like 8,000 won. Just don't bother with citronella candles or any of that stuff, they laugh at it.

ngl the floodlights are def part of the problem but the real issue is that field sits right next to the small stream that feeds into the Han, it's basically a mosquito nursery. if you can deal with a slightly rougher pitch, try the futsal courts up by Yongsan Family Park instead, way less bugs and the lights are dimmer. also skip the fancy repellents and just grab a pack of those green mosquito coils from any convenience store, 3,000 won and you can stick one in the ground near your bag, works better than spray for me

the real trick is timing, i've been going to that field for years and if you show up around 6am the mosquitos are basically comatose. there's a little ajumma who sells iced americano from a cart near the entrance around that time too, 2,000 won and she'll throw in a free bottle of that green mosquito stuff if you ask nicely. also wear long sleeves even if it's hot, the sweat keeps them off your arms weirdly enough

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
