New Year's Eve Fun in Seoul with a Teenager?

Looking for family-friendly New Year's Eve activities in Seoul. My 14-year-old brother will be with us, and I want something fun for everyone, even after the recent sadness. If your brother is into K-pop or Korean street food, head to Hongdae. The area around Hongik University station gets packed with young crowds and there are usually live busking performances and pop-up events on the main walking street. It's less about a formal countdown and more about the spontaneous energy, plus the food stalls there stay open late and have tteokbokki and hotteok for under 5,000 won. Just be prepared for crowds and hold onto your stuff, it gets tight around midnight.

The Han River parks are actually a solid option for New Year's Eve with a teenager. Yeouido Hangang Park gets busy but there's plenty of space to spread out with a blanket and some snacks from the convenience store, and you get a clear view of the fireworks without paying anything. The subway runs later that night too, so getting back to your place around midnight isn't a headache. If your brother is into K-pop, sometimes there are smaller busking performances near the park entrances that pop up organically.

Lotte World Tower has a solid NYE countdown with a great view, might be worth checking the ticket prices for the observation deck.

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
