What did you all do yesterday when it rained? On rainy days, it's nice to just stay at home and listen to the sound of the rain, or sit in a cafe and watch people passing by with umbrellas.

On rainy days, I eat Korean pancakes and drink makgeolli. Koreans always eat like this when it rains

Don't just drink soju, try makgeolli on rainy days.

By the way, Korean pancakes are expensive in crowded hot places. I recommend visiting stores in quiet neighborhoods. You will be able to enjoy a new atmosphere.

yesterday was a good excuse to finally try that jjinppang spot near Sungshin Women's Univ station. steamed bun with red bean, 2000 won, and the ajumma gave me an extra one cause it was raining and nobody was out. honestly better than pajeon for a cold wet day, lighter and you can eat it walking. the whole street there is quiet on weekdays too which is nice

when it started pouring i was stuck near Sindang so i just walked into a 24hr sauna off the main drag, the kind with the yellow sign. 8k to get in and they hand u a towel and those pajama shorts. way quieter than a cafe and u can sweat out the soju from the night before. grabbed some hotteok from a cart outside after, 1500 won, and that combo beat any pajeon plan honestly

ngl the rain caught me near Chungjeongno so i just waited it out in a manhwa bang for like two hours. 5000 won, free barley tea, and nobody bothers you. cheaper than a cafe if you dont mind the smell of instant ramyeon everywhere.

for the pajeon thing, the quiet neighborhood tip is real. the spots in Ikseon-dong jack up prices bad now, but if you go out toward Haebangchon or down near Changsin there are places doing haemul pajeon for like 12-15k still. makgeolli in a brass kettle, not the bottled stuff.

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!
arrow_drop_up 14 arrow_drop_down

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

arrow_drop_up 24 arrow_drop_down

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
