Best time to visit Seoul?

Hi everyone, I'm planning on visiting Seoul sometime next year but I'm not sure when would be the best time to go there.

Also what types of activities are available.

honestly spring is overrated unless u catch the very first week of blossoms, after that it's just dust and crowds. i'd go mid october tbh, the weather is perfect for hiking bukhan-san and the view from the top with all the red and orange is way better than any palace photo.

for activities, skip the obvious stuff and do a night food crawl in euljiro, it's all old factory buildings turned into tiny bars and grills. also take the subway to mangwon station, the market there is less touristy than gwangjang and u can get fresh ssam and makgeolli for cheap. if u're into history, the seodaemun prison is heavy but worth it, way more real than the palaces.

If you can swing it, aim for late September to early November. The summer humidity is gone, the hanok villages and parks are still green but not sweltering, and the fall foliage in places like Namsan or the Bukchon area is genuinely stunning. Spring's cherry blossoms are nice but the crowds and prices spike hard, plus the yellow dust from China can be brutal on some days.

As for activities, it really depends on what you're into. If you want the classic tourist stuff, Gyeongbokgung palace and the Myeongdong shopping street are fine, but I'd skip the latter on weekends, it's a wall of people. For something more local, rent a bike along the Han River at Ttukseom and grab fried chicken and beer at one of the riverside spots at sunset, that's a proper Seoul evening. Winter (December to February) is actually great for skating at Seoul Plaza and hitting the indoor markets like Gwangjang, but the cold is biting and some outdoor sites feel less special.

October is the sweet spot for sure, but if you can handle a bit of chill, early December has that whole cozy vibe with the Christmas lights in Cheonggyecheon and the cafes all doing their winter menus. It's less crowded than fall and the air feels crisp, plus the night markets are still going strong.

For stuff to do, I'd say check out a jimjilbang, like Siloam or Dragon Hill, it's a whole different kind of relaxing after a day of walking. Also, take a day trip to the DMZ if you're into history, it

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
