Any Kiwis/Aussies around?

Would anyone be keen to do a hike, drink some mak, and have a yarn about life in Seoul? Also down for board games and coffee for a more chill hang.

There's a solid group of Aussies and Kiwis that meet at The Craic House in Itaewon on Thursday nights. Not a bad spot to find fellow expats who actually want to do stuff outdoors rather than just sit in a pub. If you're up for a proper hike, I'd skip Bukhansan on weekends and head up Gwanaksan instead, way less crowded and the views over southern Seoul are just as good.

fwiw there's a board game cafe in Hongdae called Dice Cafe that gets a decent antipodean crowd on sunday afternoons. not as rowdy as the pub scene and you can actually hear people talk about their lives here. the owner's a kiwi too so he gets it re the makgeolli cravings, just bring your own bottle since they only do coffee and snacks

honestly mate just hit up the Seoul Hiking Group on facebook, heaps of kiwis and aussies in there and they do trips almost every weekend. way easier than trying to coordinate through reddit

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
