give it a bit more time, i know it sucks at first but theres a lot of expat groups here that are super active. if youre into sports the seoul foreigner rugby club in itaewon is always looking for new players, no experience needed and they go for drinks after practice tuesday and thursday nights. also check out the meetup app, theres a 20s and 30s seoul social group that does board game nights near gangnam station, entrance fee is like 5,000 won

yeah it's rough at first tbh. if you're into hiking there's a bunch of facebook groups that do weekend trips up bukaksan or gwanaksan, super easy to tag along and grab soju after. also the seoul global cultural center in jongno has free language exchange nights every friday, way more chill than the bars

honestly it takes a bit of time here, koreans are friendly but it's hard to break into existing friend groups. have you tried hongdae on a weekend? there's a bunch of foreigner-friendly bars near the main street, like the area around the hongdae playground. also check out the seoul global center in jongno, they run free korean classes and meetups for new arrivals, i met a few people there my first month

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
