I've been reading about how tipping (in restaurants/taxis/hotel) can be considered rude or offensive. What is appropriate for my tattoo artist? Do I just pay the set price/no tip? Or would it be considered rude to tip him for his work?

yeah totally agree with the other reply, no tip needed. tattoo studios here usually have the price set and that's what you pay, no expectation of extra. if you really wanna show appreciation, some people bring a small snack or drink for the artist but honestly even that's not expected. just be polite and show up on time, that's what matters most here

just pay the sticker price, no tip. tattoo artists here set their own rates and tipping can actually feel weird or awkward for them, totally different from the west

fwiw, if you really feel like you want to do something extra, a small gift from your home country is way more appreciated than cash. like a local snack or something small your city is known for. tattoo artists in hongdae or itaewon have told me they actually keep those on their desks. but yeah, no tip at all is the norm and they genuinely mean the quoted price

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
