Hi everyone! I'm curious if there are any gyms (CrossFit type, F45, etc) that are incorporating any training for HYROX.

Not sure if many know about this quite yet as it's an intense fitness performance challenge that is getting popular in large cities around the world.

Koreas first competition was recent in February and I'd love to compete next time.

Any info or suggestions on training or more information or workout partners for it - please share!

If you're near Mapo-gu, there's a smaller box called CrossFit Bana that's been running Hyrox-style workouts on Thursday evenings since March. The owner competed in Incheon and has been tweaking the programming based on what he learned there. They don't advertise it as Hyrox on the schedule, but if you ask about the "functional endurance" class, that's the one. The Han River path from Mangwon to Hapjeong is good for the running intervals, and it's a lot less crowded than Banpo on weekends. There's also a private Naver cafe for Hyrox in Seoul that has a board for finding partners, though you need to request access since the admin keeps it low-key.

honestly if you're near gangnam, check out Reebok CrossFit Gangnam. i know a couple of the coaches there and they ran a hyrox simulation session a few weeks back after the incheon event. they're not doing it weekly yet but they said they'd add more if people show interest. also, the running portion is half the battle here so don't sleep on the han river path near banpo bridge, that's where most people do their 1km repeats. the kakao group is def the move for finding partners but if you're more into structured programming, try reaching out to the guys at SPOBIS in jamsil, they've been talking about hyrox specific blocks since january

I've seen a few people training for it at CrossFit Hannam near Yongsan. They've been running specific Hyrox prep sessions on Saturday mornings since the Incheon event, though it's not officially advertised. You might also check out WERK in Seongsu - they do more functional fitness stuff and some of their coaches have been looking into Hyrox programming after the Korea debut. If you want a training partner, the Seoul Hyrox community has a KakaoTalk group where people post meetups for the running and sled work at Ttukseom park on weekends.

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!
arrow_drop_up 15 arrow_drop_down

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

arrow_drop_up 24 arrow_drop_down

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
