Is early morning actually the move, and how long should I budget for the whole site?

Friday mornings are quieter but the mosque inside closes for prayer, so go Saturday and skip the midday khamsin heat.

al-Nasir Muhammad mosque's the one with the real hours, check before

arrow_drop_up 24 arrow_drop_down

good call, police museum upstairs keeps separate hours too

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

yeah Saturday's smart but check if there's a Coptic holiday, place can get packed

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

khamsin season runs march to may so if you're going later in the year the heat's a different beast, more like june-august frying

Saturday also pulls school groups, try Tuesday

Watch the military museum hours too, they cut off earlier than the grounds.

honestly opening time around 8am is the move, and yeah budget like 2-3hrs cuz teh site is bigger than u think.

Also, do foreign cards generally work at ATMs around the Citadel area, or am I better off withdrawing before I head over?

Bring small notes, change is scarce

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

50 pound notes work best for the ticket window

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

True, and the kiosk near the ticket window often can't break a 200, so ask for 20s and 50s at the bank.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

Cash is safer for the Citadel ticket in my experience. Foreign cards at those ATMs can be hit or miss, so withdraw beforehand.

yeah teh ticket window was card only when i went
