solid tips already, i'd add that if you're doing coptic cairo, walk over to the church of st sergius and bacchus, it's one of the oldest in egypt and the crypt is supposedly where the holy family rested. it's tucked away and feels way more intimate than the hanging church which gets crowded fast. also near mar girgis there's a tiny bakery called el abd that sells the best basbousa i've had in the city, like 10 egp for a slice and it's still warm
honestly this is a solid guide, nailed the essentials. one thing id add is that the GEM is still kinda chaotic even in 2026 - the main halls are open but some side galleries are still being set up. if you go, skip the audio guide and just wander, the layout is pretty intuitive and you'll prob get a better feel for it on your own.
for Islamic Cairo, dont miss the walk from Bab Zuweila to the Blue Mosque, it's like stepping into a different century. the street vendors there sell the best fresh sugarcane juice for like 5 EGP, way better than the touristy stuff in Khan el-Khalili. also, the metro tip is spot on but heads up, line 3 gets packed during rush hour, aim for 10 AM or after 8 PM if u can.
the felucca ride is a must but honestly 200 EGP per hour feels high unless you're at the Marriott dock. if you walk a bit south near the Four Seasons, you can haggle down to 150 EGP, just be firm about the price before you get on. sunset from the water is unbeatable though, especially when the call to prayer echoes across the city.
the food tip is good but abou tarek is more of a tourist trap these days tbh. for real koshari try koshari el tahrir near the egyptian museum, it's dirt cheap and the lines are all locals. also if ur in zamalek for the opera house, grab a coffee at cafe greek club after, the garden is quiet and you can see the nile through the trees, feels like a totally different cairo
