tbh apps are pretty common now but a lot of people still meet thru family or friend circles, the mashroub coffee meetup thing felt more formal than I expected

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

yeah the family intro thing is still huge, and i'd add that the formal vibe you mentioned is kinda the point, it's basically a supervised first meeting

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Supervised, but usually at her parents' place not a cafe

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

fair but the guy usually brings a relative too, at least from what i heard

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

The khoutba step comes after those supervised meets, usually once both families are satisfied.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

Khoutba usually follows a few months in, not right after

Cairo 2026: getting a tax card while visiting?

I'm stuck at the part where they ask for a local address proof, since I'm staying near the Citadel and don't have a lease in my name. Anyone been through this recently and know what actually works?

If u can, get the leaseholder to register the sublease at the shahr aqari office first, that stamped paper carries way more weight than a handwritten letter. Also bank statements showing local withdrawals sometimes get accepted as supplementary proof.

arrow_drop_up 21 arrow_drop_down

Shahr aqari registration can take a couple of weeks, so start it well before your appointment.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Two weeks is optimistic, mine took closer to five.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Bank statements only help if they're stamped by the bank branch, plain printouts get waved off.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Get the leaseholder's ownership deed (tawkīl) copy too, since some clerks at the Tax Authority won't accept a sublease without proof they actually own the flat.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

notary stamp on the sublease matters more than the registration

Registration fee receipts help too, staples to the sublease.

arrow_drop_up -2 arrow_drop_down

agreed on the aqari stamp but do the mokattam branch instead of the main one, way shorter wait

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

The address proof is usually the sticking point at the Tax Authority office on Ramses Street. In practice a stamped sublease or a letter from whoever holds the lease plus a utility bill in their name tends to get accepted, but it depends on the clerk. Bring your passport and a few copies of everything, and go early since the queues build by mid morning.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

yeah to that, and get the leaseholder's id copy too since clerks sometimes ask for it alongside their utility bill
