I was there last spring and paid at the gate with no problem, though card machines can be flaky so bring cash in EGP as backup. Go right at the 8am opening, the tour buses usually start rolling in around 10 and the Muhammad Ali Mosque gets packed. The walk up from the Salah Salem side is steep, so factor in 15 minutes.

Cash backup is smart, though I'd double check the ticket window hours since they shift seasonally.

Good call on the timing tbh, the courtyard between the two mosques gets way quieter once the buses clear out around noon.

Alabaster Mosque side entrance is quicker

The gate ticket queue moves fast but the security bag check line is what actually eats 20 minutes, so arrive before opening not at it.

Skip the midday heat, go 3pm-ish.

What's the actual entry fee foreigners pay in 2026, and is there a separate ticket for the mosques inside? I'd rather know the real rate upfront than get quoted something different at the gate.

honestly the citadel ticket usually covers the mosques too, no separate one last I checked. I think it ran around 450 EGP for foreigners recently but 2026 rates could differ. pay at teh window, not touts.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

The 450 EGP figure is roughly right for the Citadel itself, and the mosques inside (Muhammad Ali, Al-Nasir Muhammad) are included. Some sources list closer to 500 now, so budget a bit more. Buy at the ticket window, not from anyone outside.

Cash queue moves faster than card, fwiw.

Yeah no separate mosque ticket, though the police museum inside sometimes needs a small extra fee of its own.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

Police museum fee is a few pounds extra and honestly skippable unless you're into old uniforms. The real draw is the view from the Muhammad Ali terrace over the city.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Al-Aqmar and Al-Azhar are outside the walls anyway, so no combo ticket covers them. Inside, the military museum building is free with the main entry; only the little side halls ask extra.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Foreigner rate is card-only now at the gate, and students with ISIC get roughly half off, so bring it if u qualify.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Card readers do fail there sometimes, so keep enough cash as backup even if they prefer card.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

isic card needs to be valid, expired ones get turned away

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

worth adding that the discount only applies at the main window, so don't let anyone steer u to a side entrance. also double check the expiry month not just the year, they do look
