Friday is the quietest day since the mosques fill up for prayer but the museums stay open, so you'll dodge the school groups. The walk down to the Alabaster Mosque courtyard bakes by midday, so bring water and a hat even in spring. Allow extra time for the hawkers near the entrance.

The military museum closes earlier than the rest, so hit that first and save the courtyard for last.

Skip the hawkers at Bab el-Azab, main gate side.

Go early when it opens around 8, the Citadel grounds plus the mosque and military museum take a solid three hours.

How bad is the traffic there during morning rush, and is there anything about the road layout or exits I should know before I arrive?

morning rush on Al Nasr is rough, i'd budget 45 min for a stretch that takes 15 off peak. the road itself is fine but watch for the u-turn slots, they come up suddenly and people cut across lanes to hit them. also ngl the microbus drivers stop anywhere, so keep a gap. gas up before you head out, stations on that road are sparse.

Flyover exit near City Stars, easy to miss.

yeah that whole stretch around Abbas El Akkad is confusing if you don't know it. the turnoffs come up fast and signage is mostly Arabic, so learn your lane early. honestly google maps saved me more than once there.
