Working remotely from Cairo in 2026: internet and coworking?

How's the internet for video calls, and are there coworking spots near the Citadel or is Downtown the better base? Also curious how late people usually stay out working, since I'll need to overlap with US hours.

downtown is the better base for coworking, there are a few spots around 26th july and abdel khalek tharwat, the citadel side is basically dead for that. internet is fine for video calls in most of downtown and zamalek, but load-shedding era outages are less common now though buildings still get spotty. people work late here anyway so overlapping with US hours is normal, dinner at 10pm is standard.

yeah the citadel side really has nothing, agreed. one thing id add is a backup mobile router or a second SIM, since individual buildings can still drop for a day even when the area is fine. zamalek is quieter for calls than the 26th july strip.

arrow_drop_up 11 arrow_drop_down

Fair point on the second SIM, and worth checking whether your building has a generator too since that's often what keeps the router alive.

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

Zamalek's fibre is the safer bet for calls.

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

agreed on zamalek fiber but worth noting the older buildings there can be slow to install, we waited almost 3 weeks once. if u need to be online day one, check with ur landlord before signing

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Check if the line is already active before signing.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Building-specific backup is the real issue, the second SIM advice is solid.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

The 26th July strip gets loud after midnight on weekends, so I'd pick a side street off Abdel Khalek Tharwat for calls.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

load-shedding mostly over now, so that part's dated

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Good to know about the late dinner norm, that lines up with what I've heard about Cairo schedules. I'd only add that if you don't want to sit in a cafe until 2am, a decent home setup with a UPS might serve you better for the US overlap.

Driving Al Nasr Rd in Cairo 2026, what to expect?

How bad is the traffic there during morning rush, and is there anything about the road layout or exits I should know before I arrive?
arrow_drop_up 15 arrow_drop_down

morning rush on Al Nasr is rough, i'd budget 45 min for a stretch that takes 15 off peak. the road itself is fine but watch for the u-turn slots, they come up suddenly and people cut across lanes to hit them. also ngl the microbus drivers stop anywhere, so keep a gap. gas up before you head out, stations on that road are sparse.

Flyover exit near City Stars, easy to miss.

yeah that whole stretch around Abbas El Akkad is confusing if you don't know it. the turnoffs come up fast and signage is mostly Arabic, so learn your lane early. honestly google maps saved me more than once there.
