yeah this guide's pretty thorough. one thing i'd add is the lamb soup at zhang's on jiefang road, it's a tiny place with no sign really just a red lantern out front. bowl is 10 RMB and they use a younger lamb so the meat's more tender than most spots, they also toss in some goji berries which is unusual for this style. gets busy with construction workers around 11:30 so go a bit earlier or later
the heping road market tip is good but if you go on a tuesday or thursday there's fewer crowds and the vendors are more willing to haggle on the grilled stuff. stall 23's owner gave me an extra skewer once just for chatting in broken mandarin about his hometown near luoyang
sweet dream bakery's egg tarts are fine but the red bean cakes there are actually better if you get them fresh, they use a lard-based pastry that's flakier than the egg tarts. just ask for the hongdou su, they keep them in a warmer near the register
