yeah the guide's pretty solid overall. one thing i'd mention is that if you're doing the beidaihe beach morning, the water can be chilly even in june, so don't expect a warm swim. also for food near shanhaiguan, there's a small place called lao ma lamb soup just off old street, it's like 15 yuan a bowl and way better than the tourist traps, just look for the red sign with faded writing.

honestly the guide nailed the big stuff but i'd add that the best seafood isnt at the market itself but the little family-run joints on the side streets off Beidaihe's Lianfeng Road. they'll do a whole steamed fish with ginger and scallion for like 60 yuan and it's way fresher than the tourist spots. also if you're at Shanhaiguan, skip the main tower ticket and just walk the old town walls for free, the view is basically the same and you can grab a grilled corn from a vendor for 5 yuan. one thing the guide missed is the Qinhuangdao Glass Museum in the city center, it's tiny but has some wild local art glass from the 80s, free entry and takes 20 minutes tops.
I have a few things to add after spending a summer in Qinhuangdao. For the Golden Coast area, most people head straight to the sand, but the boardwalk that runs parallel to it is great for an evening bike ride with hardly any tourists around. You can rent a bike from a shop near the Jinshan Hotel for about 20 yuan for the whole day and pedal all the way to the seagull sanctuary at the south end. Also, if you are visiting Jieshi Mountain, go on a clear day because the view of the Bohai Sea from the top is spectacular, but the temple at the base has a small stele garden with carvings that are easy to overlook and worth a few minutes.
yeah the glass museum tip is good, i'd also throw in the Laolongtou (Old Dragon's Head) section of the great wall that actually goes into the sea. it's a separate ticket from Shanhaiguan, like 50 yuan i think, but walking out on that stone wall with waves on both sides is pretty surreal. go at low tide when the rocks are exposed and you can see the old cannon placements
another thing the guide glossed over is the Qinhuangdao Olympic Sports Center area at night. it's this big stadium complex near the beach and locals hang out on the plaza steps watching the fountains with colored lights. grab a bag of fried squid from a street cart nearby for like 15 yuan and just sit there, it's way more relaxed than the touristy beidaihe promenade
one more niche spot: the shell beach near changli county, about 40 mins south of beidaihe by bus. it's not really a swimming beach but the shoreline is covered in tiny fossilized shells and you can find some pretty ones if you look. hardly anyone goes there, just a few locals collecting clams at dawn
