honestly the guide is pretty solid but they missed that the bus to xisaishan (route 4) can get packed on weekends, if u can grab a didi for like 35 yuan it's way more chill. the hike up isnt too bad but bring water, there's one stall at the base and they charge double what u'd pay in town. also the fortress ruins are cool but the real gem is the little pavilion near the top, if u go around 3pm the light hits the yangtze just right for photos
yeah that guide's pretty spot on but one thing they didn't mention is the morning market on wuhan lu near lao tongcheng, it's like a 5 minute walk from the restaurant and runs from like 6 to 9am, tons of fresh fruit and local snacks for cheap. also if you're at the mine park and the outdoor trail's closed for maintenance or something, the indoor exhibits are still decent for the air conditioning on a hot day, just don't spend more than 20 minutes in there
quick note on the museum, it's small but the bronze exhibit on the second floor has some really old pieces from the zhou dynasty that most people walk right past. takes maybe 40 minutes total so pair it with a walk down gangcheng lu afterward, there's a few old alleyways branching off with tea houses that are nice for a break. also the ferry to the temple island runs less frequently after 5pm so check the schedule at the dock or u might wait 20 minutes

Honestly I think the nightlife hub section undersells how good the food scene is around Wuhan Road after midnight. The line gets long but it moves fast
For the family friendly pick near Cihu Park, the museum is free but Tuesday mornings are dead quiet if you want to avoid crowds. Also there's a small playground hidden behind the main one that locals use, less crowded and has actual shade. the Family Inn is solid but check if they have the suites on the third floor, the second floor rooms get street noise from Park Avenue

There are a few small hotels tucked into the residential buildings there, nothing fancy, rooms around 180-220 CNY, but you get a real feel for how people actually live in Huangshi. For the budget stays listed near the railway station, I'd suggest walking one more block to the guesthouses on Renmin Street instead. They're about the same price but the rooms tend to be quieter since they're set back from the main road. The owner at Number 17 is an old lady who makes her own pickled vegetables and will leave a jar in your room if you ask nicely.
