Good itinerary, covers the essentials. For the Li River cruise, one thing the guide doesn't mention is that the boats from Zhujiang Pier are massive and the lunch onboard is just okay. I'd pick up some pastries or fruit from the bakery on Zhongshan Road before boarding, it makes the afternoon much better.

On Day 2, biking to Moon Hill is great but if you're not up for the climb, the view from the base is still fantastic. The path up is steep and uneven, I've seen people turn around halfway. The Yulong River rafting is the real highlight of that day, the quiet poling through the paddies is a totally different experience from the motorized boats.

One spot I'd add for dinner on Day 3 is the night market on Zhengyang Pedestrian Street. It opens around 5 PM and the grilled skewers with cumin and chili are about 3 CNY each. Grab a few and a cold beer from the convenience store, sit on the steps by the lake and watch people pass by. It's a low-key way to end the trip.

solid plan, you've covered the main spots well. one thing i'd tweak is the morning on day 2 - instead of heading straight to moon hill, take a detour through the village of xingping first. it's about 30 minutes north of yangshuo by bike, and the old town there has that classic fishing-village vibe with fewer tourists. the 20 yuan note view is literally right there on the riverbank, you can see the same karst peaks as the bill.

for the rafting on yulong river, try to book the early morning slot if you can. we went at 8 am and had the river almost to ourselves, just mist rising off the water and farmers working in the paddies. by 10 am it gets packed with tour groups and the pole guys are rushing through it.

the rice noodle spot on ronghu road is a good call, but also check out the stall near the east gate of seven star park - it's a cart, not a shop, open until they sell out around 1 pm. they do a dry mix with peanuts and chili that's way better than the soupy version. 10 yuan for a big bowl.

i've done this route a few times and honestly the day 2 bike rental is the best decision here. just a heads up, those electric bikes run out of battery faster than you'd think if you're going all the way to moon hill and back. ask the rental place for a fresh battery or plan a lunch stop near the yulong river where some shops let you charge for free if you buy a drink.

for the li river cruise on day 1, the boats leave from zhujiang pier but there's also a smaller dock near the elephant trunk hill that does a shorter 1-hour trip for like 80 yuan. way less crowded and you still get the karst views without the 4-hour commitment. i'd do that then head to yangshuo by bus instead, gives you more time to explore west street before it gets packed at night.

yeah this is a really helpful post, especially for first-timers. one thing i don't see mentioned is that if you're taking the airport bus to the Civil Aviation Building, there's a small noodle shop right next to the drop-off point on Shanghai Road that does a solid guilin rice noodles for like 8 yuan. perfect if you just landed and need a quick bite before heading to your hotel, way better than the overpriced stuff at the airport

also for the late-night taxi thing, if you're arriving around midnight and don't want to pay the surcharge, the airport actually has a few budget hotels within walking distance like the 7 Days Inn near the terminal. it's like 150 yuan a night and they have a free shuttle to the city center the next morning. saved me when my flight got delayed last year

the didi tip about the parking lot is spot on, learned that the hard way too. just make sure you're at the right lot, there's two of them and drivers get mixed up

One thing I rarely see mentioned is that the airport's domestic arrivals hall has a small convenience store near exit 5 that sells local SIM cards. If your roaming plan is spotty, it's cheaper than the kiosks in the international terminal and they'll set it up in under five minutes. Just bring your passport.

Also, if you're heading to Yangshuo and the direct bus is full, there's a shared van service that operates from the same parking area. It's 70 yuan per person and they leave once they have four passengers, which is usually within 15 minutes. The bus is more reliable though, the vans can be a bit cramped with luggage.

good breakdown. one thing the guide doesn't mention is that the airport rail link to guilin west actually drops you right at the station's east entrance, and from there you can catch bus 22 straight to the city center for 2 yuan. it's a bit of a walk to the bus stop though, about 5 minutes around the corner

i'd also say if you're using didi, set your pickup point to the parking lot near the domestic arrivals exit, not the main road. drivers get confused and end up circling, wasted 10 minutes on my first try

the luggage storage at the airport is solid but there's also a left luggage place inside the civil aviation building on shanghai road, same price and you can grab it on your way back to the airport bus
