**🎆 New Year Kickoff** January 1st brings the citywide New Year's Day celebrations, with the main hub at Zhongshan Square and nearby Taiyuan Street. Expect fireworks at midnight, street performances, and large crowds, so arrive early if you want a good view. Dress warmly, as temperatures often drop below -15°C, and consider booking a nearby hotel if you plan to stay late. **🏮 Spring Festival Lanterns** Late January or early February marks Chinese New Year, and Shenyang hosts the grand Imperial Palace Lantern Festival at the Shenyang Palace Museum (171 Shenyang Road). The palace is adorned with thousands of traditional lanterns, and there are folk performances like dragon dances and acrobatics. This is a peak tourist time, so book tickets online in advance and expect heavy crowds, especially on the first two days of the holiday. **🌸 Ice and Snow** Throughout February, the Shenyang Ice and Snow Festival takes place at Beiling Park (Beiling Street), featuring massive ice sculptures, snow slides, and ice lanterns. It's a family-friendly event with activities like ice biking and skating, and entry costs around 50 RMB. Dress in layers, as wind chill can be severe, and visit on a weekday to avoid the weekend rush. **🎭 Qingming Cultural Fair** In early April, the Qingming Festival is observed with a cultural fair at the Zhaoling Tomb (Beiling Park), honoring ancestors with traditional ceremonies and performances of Manchu music and dance. The fair is less crowded than other events, making it a good time to explore the park's gardens. Entry to the tomb area is 30 RMB, and you can join guided tours in English at 10 AM and 2 PM. **🎶 May Music Fest** Mid-May brings the Shenyang International Music Festival, held at the Shengjing Grand Theatre (Qingnian Street) and various outdoor stages in Zhongshan Park. The festival features classical concerts, jazz ensembles, and local rock bands, with many free performances in the park. Check the schedule online, and for ticketed shows, prices range from 80 to 300 RMB. Arrive early for outdoor events to grab a good spot. **🏯 Dragon Boat Races** In June, the Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated with traditional boat races on the Hun River near the Wulihe Park area. Teams from across the region compete in colorful dragon boats, and there are stalls selling zongzi (sticky rice dumplings) and other festival foods. The races are free to watch, but bring sunscreen and a hat, as the riverside has little shade. Get there by 9 AM for the opening ceremony. **🎨 Summer Art Expo** July and August feature the Shenyang International Art Expo at the Liaoning Exhibition Hall (86 Qingnian Street), showcasing contemporary paintings, sculptures, and photography from local and international artists. There are also workshops where you can try your hand at calligraphy or paper-cutting. Admission is 20 RMB, and the hall is air-conditioned, making it a pleasant escape from the summer heat. Plan for at least two hours to see everything. **🎑 Mid-Autumn Moon** In September, the Mid-Autumn Festival is celebrated with mooncake tastings and lantern displays at the Shenyang Botanical Garden (Shenyang East Road). The garden hosts a special evening event with traditional music and poetry readings under the full moon. Entry is 40 RMB, and the garden is busiest after sunset, so arrive in the late afternoon to enjoy the daytime flowers and secure a good viewing spot.
