this is a really thoughtful outline, actually covers the pace well. one thing i'd tweak is day 2 - after the 9.18 museum, instead of heading straight to beiling, walk five minutes to the old industrial district on beita street. there's a small free exhibition in the old factory buildings, gives you a real feel for shenyang's factory town history before the qing dynasty stuff.

also for day 1, the light show at the palace is only on in summer like june to august, if you're going in spring or fall it's dark by 6 so just wander zhongjie instead, the neon signs along the pedestrian street are pretty cool at night. and tbh the vegetarian restaurant at beiling is fine but i'd grab a scallion pancake from the cart near the south gate instead, 5 yuan and way more satisfying after temple walking

solid itinerary, been using similar routes when friends visit. for day 1, the marshall zhang mansion is often overlooked but the garden out back is actually the best part, quiet and has these old stone pathways that feel untouched. if you're there on a weekday you might have it to yourself around 3pm.

day 2 i'd swap the beiling vegetarian restaurant for a quick stop at the muslim street food area near taiyuan street, it's a 5 minute walk from the metro exit. the lamb skewers there are 8 yuan each and they grill them over charcoal right on the sidewalk, way more authentic than the park cafeteria stuff.

for day 3, if you're not dead set on qipanshan, the fushun royal ocean park is about 40 minutes by bus from shenyang north station and has a polar bear exhibit that's surprisingly good. entry is 120 yuan but the whole thing takes 3-4 hours and you're indoors so weather doesn't matter. hot springs near there are cheaper too, around 80 yuan for a basic soak.

yo this is a solid itinerary, been living here for 3 years and it covers the big stuff pretty well. one thing i'd add for day 1 - skip Laobian if there's a huge line, it's touristy af tbh. walk two blocks down to Huiwei Dumpling on Chaoyang Street, same style but cheaper and locals actually eat there, about 25 yuan for a plate.

for day 2, the 9.18 museum is heavy but worth it. pro tip: go early like 9am sharp, it gets packed with school groups by 10. the vegetarian restaurant at Beiling Park is decent but honestly you're better off grabbing a bowl of Daguo Noodles on your way back, the one on 28 Yuan Road is the original spot and hits different after walking all day.

day 3 at Qipanshan is great but the bus 168 can be a zoo on weekends. if you're going saturday or sunday, take the subway to Shenyang North then grab a didi with some other travelers, split it's like 15 yuan each and saves an hour. hot springs are worth the 128 but bring your own towel, they charge 10 yuan to rent one inside.

The Hunnan area tip is good on paper but I've found the co-working spaces there are mostly full of real estate agents during the day, not other nomads. If you want actual coworking culture, there's a spot called 3W Space near the Shenyang Library on line 2 that has better vibes and a decent coffee shop on the ground floor.

For the Shenhe recommendation, I'd add that the Zhongjie pedestrian street has a free museum inside the old Henglong building on the second floor that most tourists miss. It shows photos of Shenyang from the 1920s when the street was called "Commercial Street" under Japanese occupation. Takes about 20 minutes to walk through and gives you some context for the area.

ngl the budget near shenyang north station tip is spot on but i'd add a caveat - the hotels right by the station plaza are noisy as hell with train announcements and taxi horns all night. i stayed at a 7 days inn there once and barely slept. go one block west to beijing street, there's a home inn there for like 160 a night and it's way quieter plus there's a decent hotpot place on the corner that stays open til 2am

for the metro tip - qingnian street station is a major hub but if you're staying in shenhe the dongzhongjie stop on line 1 is actually closer to the palace and zhongjie itself. saves you a 15 minute walk from qingnian street. also the metro runs til 10:30pm which is earlier than you'd think, so check the last train times if you're out late in heping or you'll be paying 15-20 yuan for a taxi back

solid breakdown, one thing i'd flag is the hunnan recommendation for digital nomads - the internet is fine but the area is kinda dead after 9pm unless you're near the olympic sports center. i lived there for a month and had to metro into heping every night just to find a proper dinner spot. the ascott is nice tho, the kitchenette saves you from eating out every meal

for luxury in the city center the kempinski is great but the marriott in dadong actually has better views of the palace if you get a high floor room on the north side. same price range but quieter at night. the kempinski bar lounge is worth visiting even if you don't stay there, they do a decent afternoon tea set for like 120 yuan and the view over the palace roof is pretty stunning at sunset
