I'd add that the hidden hilltop pavilion at the Botanical Garden is easier to find if you go through the Hunnan East Road side gate around 7 AM, that's when the morning joggers let themselves in and the gate's usually propped open. The view is clear and the city's still waking up, feels like you have the whole place to yourself.

For the Kempinski rooftop bar, it's worth going on a Tuesday or Wednesday night when it's dead quiet. The cocktails start at 60 CNY but the happy hour from 5 to 7 PM cuts that to 45, and you can watch the TV Tower lights shift colors while the traffic below turns into a slow river of headlights.

yo this is a solid guide, nice work. one thing i'd add is the old railway line behind the 1905 park, it's like a 10 min walk north on Xinghua. there's this abandoned signal tower covered in graffiti, locals call it "the red box" and you can climb up for a killer view of the Tiexi skyline at golden hour. no signs or anything, just hop the low fence near the overpass.

also for the Xita street cold noodles, the best ones are from the old lady who sets up her cart right outside the Korean church on Xita Street around 6pm. she's been there for like 20 years, uses a homemade chili oil that's way better than the standard stuff. costs the same 10 yuan but she's cash only and usually sold out by 8.

this guide's pretty thorough, good stuff. one thing i'd throw in is the underground market under the Zhongshan Square roundabout, there's a warren of tunnels from the japanese occupation era that locals turned into a flea market. you enter through the subway station exit C and follow the painted arrows, it's all vintage cameras and old military pins and weird porcelain dolls. i found a 1980s shenyang bus token there for like 5 yuan, the old guy running the stall said it was from a route that stopped running in the 90s

also for the botanical garden pavilion, if you go on a weekday morning the gardeners are usually watering the flower beds near the side entrance, they'll wave you through without hassle. the path up to the pavilion is a bit overgrown but there's a bench halfway that has a perfect view of the city's communist-era smokestacks poking through the treeline, it's a weird contrast but pretty in its own way

metro's solid advice but one thing nobody mentioned - if you're coming in during summer, the metro can get stuffy as hell. like not unbearable but after a 3 hour flight the walk from the train to the exit at qingniandajie feels longer than it is. i usually hop off a stop early at shifuguangchang in july/august just to catch some air

also for the didi thing, the app will give you a license plate number but sometimes the car that shows up is different. happened to me twice, once the driver just waved me over and said "shang che" and i was too tired to argue. it was fine but sketchy. if you're paranoid stick with the taxi queue, at least the car matches the plate on the window

one more thing about the airport shuttle - the bus to shenyang railway station is fine but the one to shenyang north station has a stop right next to a 24 hour kfc. if your flight lands late and everything else is closed it's a lifesaver for a snack while you wait for the bus to fill up

Nice breakdown of the options. One thing I'd mention is that if you're taking the metro into town, the Qingniandajie stop drops you right near the shopping district, but if you're staying closer to the north side of the city near Beiling Park or the Imperial Palace, get off at the Zhongjie stop instead. It's one stop earlier and puts you closer to the pedestrian street, which is a better starting point for exploring the old city.

Also, a heads up about the taxi situation specifically at Taoxian. The official queue is fine, but sometimes the drivers will try to negotiate a flat rate to avoid the meter, especially if they see you're a foreigner. I've had them quote 150 yuan for a trip that should be 70. Just insist on the meter or walk to the next cab in line, they usually give in.

honestly that guide is pretty thorough, one thing i'd flag is the metro card deposit thing - it's only 20 yuan and you get it back at any station when you leave, but the refund window closes at like 8pm i think? lost 20 yuan that way once cause i tried to return it after grabbing dinner near zhongjie

also if you're landing at Taoxian and it's your first time in Shenyang, the air quality can hit you in the face when you step out. not always bad but winter especially, bring a mask if you're sensitive. the metro is clean though, no issues there

for the high-speed rail link to shenyang south, it's actually a pretty chill ride but the station itself is kinda out in the middle of nowhere. if you're heading to beijing or dalian it's worth it but for local stuff just take the metro into town imo
