**🎉 Hezhou Festival Scene** Hezhou, in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, hosts a lively mix of Han Chinese and Zhuang cultural festivals throughout the year. Most events are free and open to the public, though some require advance registration. The peak seasons are spring and autumn, when the weather is mild and crowds are manageable. This guide covers the major festivals plus a few lesser-known local gatherings for 2026. **🏮 January: Lantern Festival** The Lantern Festival falls on the 15th day of the first lunar month, which in 2026 is March 3. However, Hezhou also celebrates a smaller lantern display in late January at Lingfeng Park (No. 18 Lingfeng Road). Expect traditional lantern riddles, tangyuan (sweet rice balls) stalls, and evening performances from 6 PM to 10 PM. It's family-friendly and free, but arrive early to avoid the biggest crowds. **🌸 February: Spring Festival** Chinese New Year in 2026 falls on February 17, and Hezhou celebrates with a week of temple fairs, dragon dances, and fireworks. The main action is at Hezhou Square (Chengzhong Road) and the old town area, with lion dances from 10 AM to 4 PM daily. Many shops and restaurants close for three to five days, so stock up on essentials. Book hotels at least a month ahead, as domestic travel spikes. **🐉 March: Zhuang Sanyuesan** Sanyuesan, the Zhuang ethnic festival, takes place on the third day of the third lunar month, which is April 19 in 2026. Hezhou's Zhuang community gathers at Huangyao Ancient Town (about 40 km southwest of the city) for folk songs, bamboo pole dancing, and five-color glutinous rice. The event runs from 9 AM to 9 PM and draws big crowds, so book transport early. Wear comfortable shoes for the cobblestone streets. **🌺 April: Peach Blossom Festival** From late March to mid-April, the peach orchards around Gupo Mountain (about 30 km from Hezhou city) burst into bloom. The local government organizes a Peach Blossom Festival with guided walks, photography contests, and local honey sales. Entry to the orchards is usually 20 to 30 yuan, and the best viewing is on weekdays to avoid weekend crowds. Buses from Hezhou Bus Station run hourly to the mountain. **🚣 June: Dragon Boat Races** The Dragon Boat Festival in 2026 falls on June 19, and Hezhou holds races on the He River near the Hezhou Bridge. Teams from across Guangxi compete, and the riverbank fills with spectators from 8 AM to noon. Bring a hat and sunscreen, as there is little shade. Local vendors sell zongzi (sticky rice dumplings) for around 5 yuan each. **🌕 September: Mid-Autumn Festival** Mid-Autumn Festival in 2026 is on September 25, and Hezhou celebrates with mooncake markets and lantern displays along Lingfeng Road. The biggest gathering is at Lingfeng Park from 7 PM to 11 PM, where families picnic and children carry lit lanterns. Mooncakes range from 10 to 50 yuan per box at local bakeries like Lihua Bakery (No. 45 Jianshe Street). It's a relaxed, family-oriented event. **🍂 October: Hezhou Tea Culture Festival** In mid-October, Hezhou hosts a Tea Culture Festival at the Hezhou Tea Expo Center (No. 1 Chayuan Road). The event highlights local white tea and includes tastings, tea ceremony demonstrations, and a market with teas from 50 to 200 yuan per 500g. It runs from 9 AM to 5 PM for three days, usually the second weekend of the month. Entry is free, but some workshops require online registration. **❄️ December: Winter Solstice** The Winter Solstice, around December 21 or 22, is a low-key but meaningful festival in Hezhou. Families gather for a meal of tangyuan or dumplings, and some temples like Xilai Temple (on Xishan Road) hold small ceremonies. There are no large public events, but it's a good time to experience local customs. Restaurants may have special set menus, so call ahead for reservations.
