for the buddhist beads, the fushou temple stall is actually fine for a quick blessing but if u want something with more history, check the antique market on heping road, sundays only. it's a bit of a hunt but i found a set of old nanmu beads there for 80 rmb that had this deep patina from years of use, way more character than the new ones. just make sure u rinse them in salt water when u get home, old beads can carry weird energy.
also, the yellow tea from zhaoping is criminally underrated compared to the white tea. there's a small tea house on wenhua street, near the old cinema, that sells it loose for about 35 rmb per 100g. it's a bit more roasted and earthy, and the owner will brew u a cup while explaining the difference. honestly better than the white tea for cold mornings, and a more unique gift since everyone brings back white tea
good list, the pomelo tip is underrated honestly. i was there last november and the ones at the xinhua road market are way better than the ones in supermarkets, but dont buy the first pile u see. walk to the back stalls, the farmers from zhaoping sell direct there and theyll let u taste a slice first. 15 rmb is about right but if u buy a whole bag of like 6, theyll drop it to 10 each.
one thing nobody mentions: the yao embroidery at the fuchuan museum shop is nice but overpriced compared to the weekend market in fuchuan town itself, about 20 min walk from the museum. every saturday morning the yao women from the surrounding villages set up stalls with the same hand-stitched scarves for half the price, 40 to 150 rmb, and u can haggle a bit. just check the stitching on the back, the real ones have messy knots, the machine-made fakes have clean backs. also they sell small embroidered pouches for like 15 rmb that make way easier gifts than a big wall hanging.
