Good write-up overall, and I'd second the eastern district tip for late nights, but the real hidden gem is the karaoke bars there. They look intimidating from the outside, but most have English song lists and the staff are happy to walk you through the process if you've never done a Chinese-style KTV room. It's a private room with friends, not a stage, so don't worry about performing in public. Also, for the Hezhou Tourism Festival in October, the special parties are fun, but the real draw is the temporary food stalls that pop up along the riverwalk, they do stuff you won't find at the regular night market like grilled river snails and sugarcane juice pressed right in front of you. One practical note on getting home, the 7-Eleven corner trick works, but if you're near the old town, the Didi pickup point by the north gate of the city wall is usually empty even when the main roads are swamped.

Nice write up, this covers most of what I'd tell visitors. One thing I always mention though is the late night wonton spots that pop up near the old town around 1 AM, they're not in any guide but they hit different after a few drinks. Also if you're doing the Underground Live House, check their WeChat before going, they post set times there and sometimes the cover is cheaper if you message ahead. And for the Jazz Corner, the 1 AM close is true but the last set usually wraps by 11:45, so don't show up late expecting a

Solid guide, and the Jiangbin Road tip about it getting quiet after 11 on weekdays is real. I'd add that the Night Market on Lingfeng South Road is best between 7 and 9 PM, right when the food stalls are firing up but before the big crowds roll in. Grab a seat at one of the plastic tables near the river end, the grilled squid vendor there is the one locals queue for, not the flashier ones closer to the main gate.

For getting back, if you're staying near the eastern district, skip the main road entirely and walk toward the canal path behind Club Nova. The Didi drivers know that shortcut and it cuts a good five minutes off the pickup time, plus you avoid the bottleneck where Badao Street meets the ring road. That's saved me more than once on a Saturday night.

solid list, the tea plantations are underrated imo. if you go to Zhaoping, ask around for the small family-run drying sheds, not just the main garden. they'll let you watch the whole process and the tea tastes way fresher than the tourist stuff. also the bus from Hezhou West to Zhaoping is fine, but the return trip leaves from a different stop near the county square, not the same spot you got dropped at. easy to miss, ask a local to point you there.

for Huangyao, the tofu is good but the real move is the pickled vegetables they sell by the bridge, especially the radish. grab some to eat on the bus back, it's like 5 yuan and beats any snack you'll find near the stations.

also, if you're going in late spring, the fireflies around Gupo Mountain's lower stream start showing up around 7:30 pm. the park closes at 5:30 though, so you'd need to hike in from the south entrance after hours. not for everyone, but if you're up for it, it's magical. just bring a headlamp and watch for snakes.

Good writeup, this covers most of what I'd tell people. One thing that got me my first time: the bus schedule signs at Hezhou East are mostly in Chinese only, so if you can't read it, just ask the ticket counter person, they're used to tourists and will point you to the right platform. Also for Huangyao, if you go during harvest season in late autumn, the persimmons drying on the rooftops make the whole town smell sweet, it's a nice bonus you won't see in photos.

honestly the guide nailed it but i'd add one thing: skip the taxi to Huangyao and take the bus, the ride's actually pretty scenic once you get past the outskirts. also if you're there on a weekday you can sometimes catch the old guys playing chess under the banyan tree near Dailong Bridge, worth hanging around for a bit.

for Gupo Mountain, the bamboo rice stalls are hit or miss, but the grilled fish near the lower waterfall is legit. bring a change of socks too, the trail gets muddy even when it hasn't rained for a few days.

one thing nobody mentions: check if the last bus back from Zhaoping actually runs on Sundays. i got stuck there once and had to split a Didi with a couple from Guilin, cost us 60 each. not terrible but plan around it.
