**🍜 Must-Try Local Dishes** Heshan is famous for its freshwater fish, especially the steamed Xijiang carp, which is often served with ginger and scallions at around 68 yuan. Another local favorite is the crispy roast goose, with half a bird costing about 45 yuan at most markets. Don't miss the claypot rice with preserved meats, a winter specialty that costs around 25 yuan per pot. **🏮 Old Town Street Eats** The narrow lanes around Shaping Market on Zhongshan Road are packed with street stalls from 7 AM to 9 PM. Look for the rice noodle rolls (changfen) at 5 yuan per plate, and the fried taro cakes at 3 yuan each. For a quick snack, try the grilled squid skewers for 10 yuan at the corner of Renmin Road. **🐟 Seafood by the River** Along the Xijiang River promenade, several family-run restaurants serve fresh river shrimp and snails. A typical meal for two with three dishes costs around 120 yuan. The best spot is Hejiang Seafood Restaurant at 88 Yanjiang Road, open daily from 11 AM to 10 PM. **🍚 Breakfast Spots Locals Love** Start your day with a bowl of congee and youtiao at the corner of Jiefang Road and Dongfeng Street, where a set costs 8 yuan. Another popular option is the steamed buns with pork filling at 2 yuan each from the stall near Heshan Bus Station, open from 6 AM to 10 AM. For something heartier, try the beef offal soup at 15 yuan at the morning market on Xinhua Road. **🍢 Night Market Adventures** The Heshan Night Market on Gongyuan Road comes alive from 6 PM to midnight with over 50 stalls. Must-tries include stinky tofu at 8 yuan, grilled oysters at 10 yuan each, and stir-fried noodles at 12 yuan. Bring cash as some stalls don't accept mobile payments. **🥟 Dim Sum and Teahouses** For a traditional Cantonese morning tea, head to Heshan Teahouse at 45 Wenming Road, where dim sum dishes range from 6 to 18 yuan. The har gow and siu mai are particularly good, and the teahouse opens at 6:30 AM. Expect to pay around 50 yuan per person for a full meal. **💰 Budget Dining Tips** A filling meal at a local noodle shop costs between 10 and 20 yuan, while mid-range restaurants charge 40 to 60 yuan per person. Look for set lunch menus at many restaurants around the city center, offering three dishes and rice for 35 yuan. Avoid tourist areas near the train station, where prices can be double. **🚌 Getting to Food Areas** Most food streets are within walking distance of Heshan Bus Station, but you can also take bus routes 1, 5, or 8 to reach Shaping Market and the night market. Taxis start at 8 yuan and are easy to hail, though traffic peaks around 6 PM. For the riverfront seafood spots, take bus 12 to Yanjiang Road stop.
