**🏛️ Start at the Museum** The Tongliao Museum on Huolinhe Street offers a deep dive into Mongolian and Khorchin culture. Admission is free, and the exhibits include traditional costumes, musical instruments, and artifacts from the region's nomadic past. Plan about 90 minutes to explore the two floors. **🐎 Experience Horqin Grassland** Just a 40-minute drive from the city center, the Horqin Grassland is the place for horseback riding and yurt stays. Head to Zhurihe Ranch for a half-day tour that includes a Mongolian welcome ceremony and a lunch of roasted lamb. Prices start around 200 CNY per person for a basic package. **🏯 Visit Daqing Temple** Daqing Temple, located at 1 Temple Front Street, is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery dating back to the Qing Dynasty. The temple complex features colorful murals and a 13-meter-tall statue of Sakyamuni. It is open daily from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, and entry costs 30 CNY. **🍜 Taste Local Cuisine** For authentic Mongolian food, try Aobao Restaurant on Minsheng Road. Their hand-pulled noodles with lamb and the dairy-rich buz (steamed dumplings) are local favorites. A meal for two costs around 80 CNY. For a quick snack, grab a bowl of suutei tsai (salty milk tea) from a street vendor near the train station. **🌳 Stroll in Xilamuren Park** Xilamuren Park, at the northern edge of the city, is a peaceful escape with walking paths and a small lake. The park is free and open from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM. It is especially lovely in late afternoon when locals gather for tai chi and kite flying. **🛍️ Shop at Horqin Street** Horqin Street is the main shopping area, lined with stores selling Mongolian carpets, cashmere scarves, and silver jewelry. Bargaining is expected at the open-air stalls near the intersection with Hinggan Road. Most shops are open from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM. **🌅 Catch Sunset at Nanshan** Nanshan Hill, a 15-minute taxi ride from downtown, offers panoramic views of Tongliao and the surrounding plains. The climb takes about 20 minutes, and the summit is a popular spot for photographers at golden hour. There is no entry fee. **🚌 Getting Around** Tongliao's public buses cost 1 CNY per ride and cover most attractions, but taxis are more convenient and start at 7 CNY. For trips to the grassland, consider hiring a private driver for the day, which typically costs 300 to 400 CNY. Ride-hailing apps like Didi work well in the city.
