one spot that gets overlooked is the area around the university, especially near minzu avenue. there's a bunch of cheap noodle shops that stay open late, and the bean & brew mentioned is solid but the real gem is a tiny place called lao zhang's across the street, they do hand-pulled noodles for 12 yuan and the broth is rich. if you're a digital nomad, the wifi there is actually faster than the co-working space, i've worked from there a few afternoons
also for the luxury options, the garden boutique is nice but check if they have rooms facing away from the stadium, events there can get loud on weekends. the shangri-la spa is overpriced but the pool is decent for a quick dip in summer

one thing the guide doesn't mention is that the area around horgin street gets super packed during naadam festival in august, so if u're coming then definitely book the west or south districts ahead of time. also the bus route 3 goes straight from the railway station to the museum area if u wanna save taxi fare
for food near huolin road, skip the big bars and hit the skewer stalls on the side alley behind the kfc, they do lamb skewers for 2 yuan each and it's way better than the tourist traps. the shangri-la is nice but honestly overpriced for what it is, the garden boutique has better breakfast imo
I've stayed in a few of these areas over the years and the south district near the museum is my pick for a family trip. The Tongliao Family Suites are solid but the real find is a small hotel called the Sunshine Inn on Shengli Road, it's about 320 a night for a two-bedroom and they have a little courtyard where kids can run around. The zoo is a 10 minute walk from there, not a 10 minute drive, which makes a big difference with tired little legs.
For the Huolin Road nightlife, the skewer stall tip is good but if you want something a bit different, try the grilled cold noodles at the cart just past the bus stop on the corner. It sounds weird but they char them on a flat iron and brush on spicy sauce, it's like 5 yuan and pairs well with the lamb skewers. I'd also say the digital nomad section is accurate but the co-working space Work+ can get stuffy in summer, the air conditioning struggles when it hits 35 degrees.

the guide is solid, i'd just say for day 3 the mosque is worth it but check if its prayer time before you go, they sometimes close the main hall to visitors for 30 minutes around noon. also on Zhelimu Street the cashmere scarves are fine but the ones at the department store on the corner of Heping and Mingren are actually cheaper and have better stitching, i got one there for 80 yuan last year and its held up way better than the market ones
honestly this is a solid itinerary, i live here and youve covered the main spots well. one thing i'd add is that the Horqin Museum can get crowded by 10:30 on weekends, so going right at 9 is smart. also for Day 2, the bus to the grassland leaves from the east bus station on Huolinhe Street and costs about 15 yuan, but it only runs every hour so check the schedule at the station the day before.
for the night market, i prefer the grilled lamb skewers from the stall at the south end near the intersection with Mingren Street, they use a spicier rub that most places skip. also if you have time on Day 3, theres a small market on Heping Road just north of the mosque that sells handmade Mongolian boots for 200-400 yuan, way better quality than the tourist stuff on Zhelimu Street.
Good plan overall. One thing about Daginggou, the wetland boardwalks are fine but the real highlight is the wooden observation tower at the far end of the main trail. It takes about 25 minutes to walk there from the entrance and the view over the reed beds at sunset is worth the extra time. Also on Day 1, if the museum is too crowded, the small folklore gallery on the second floor of the city library on Heping Road has a great collection of traditional Mongolian saddles and rarely has more than a few people in it.
