**🍜 Panshi's Must-Try Dishes** Panshi is known for its hearty northeastern Chinese cuisine, especially its hand-pulled noodles and savory stews. The local favorite is 'Panshi lamb soup,' a rich broth simmered with tender lamb and served with flatbread, typically priced around 20-30 yuan per bowl. Another specialty is 'suan cai' (pickled cabbage) stew, often paired with pork belly and glass noodles, found in many family-run eateries. Don't miss the street-side grilled corn and sweet potato stalls in the evening, especially around the central market area. **🏮 Old Town Eateries** The Old Town district, centered around Xinhua Street, is packed with traditional restaurants that have been serving locals for decades. Lao Li's Noodle House at 45 Xinhua Street offers hand-pulled beef noodles for 15-25 yuan, open daily from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM. For a sit-down meal, try the Panshi Dumpling King at 12 Jiefang Road, where a plate of 12 pork and chive dumplings costs about 18 yuan. Most places here are cash-only, so bring small bills. **🌃 Night Market Bites** The Panshi Night Market on Renmin Road comes alive after 6:00 PM, offering a variety of street food at bargain prices. Must-tries include grilled lamb skewers (5 yuan each), stinky tofu (10 yuan per portion), and fried noodles with vegetables (12 yuan). The market runs until around midnight, and it's busiest on weekends. Look for stall number 23, famous for its spicy grilled squid. **🍲 Hearty Stews and Hotpots** For a warming meal, head to the 'Northeast Big Pot' restaurant at 88 Hongqi Street, where a shared hotpot with lamb, tofu, and vegetables costs about 60 yuan per person. Another gem is 'Mama's Stew' at 33 Tuanjie Road, known for its pork rib and potato stew (45 yuan). These spots are especially popular in winter, so expect a wait after 6:00 PM. Reservations are not common, but you can call ahead at 0432-XXXXXXX for larger groups. **🥟 Breakfast and Snacks** Start your day like a local with a visit to the breakfast stalls near Panshi Railway Station. For 5-10 yuan, you can get freshly fried dough sticks (youtiao), soy milk, and tea eggs. The 'Morning Glory' stall at the station square opens at 5:30 AM and sells out by 8:30 AM. Another option is the baked flatbread with scallions, a crispy treat found at most street corners for 3 yuan. **🍚 Rice and Noodle Shops** Panshi has no shortage of rice and noodle shops, especially around the university area on Xuefu Road. 'Student Noodle' at 101 Xuefu Road serves generous bowls of beef noodles for 12 yuan, open from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. For rice dishes, try 'Happy Rice Bowl' at 56 Wenhua Street, where a set meal with braised pork, vegetables, and soup costs 25 yuan. These places are popular with students, so expect a lively atmosphere. **🍢 Street Food Stalls** Beyond the night market, Panshi's streets are dotted with small stalls selling snacks like fried chicken wings (8 yuan), roasted sweet potatoes (6 yuan), and candied hawthorn (5 yuan). The area around the bus station on Zhanqian Street is particularly good for quick bites. Most stalls operate from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, but some close earlier on rainy days. Always check for freshness, as these stalls cater to daily commuters. **💡 Practical Dining Tips** Most restaurants in Panshi accept cash and WeChat Pay, but credit cards are rarely accepted. Tipping is not customary, and service charges are not added. Lunch hours are typically 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM, and dinner from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. If you have dietary restrictions, learn a few Chinese phrases like 'wo bu chi la' (I don't eat spicy) to communicate with staff.
