Finding a quiet study spot?

Question

I'm heading to Sogang University next semester. Heard the library's legendary, but also heard it's a battlefield for prime study real estate. Anyone know the best time to snag a desk before the hordes descend? Or are there secret, less-crowded spots I should know about? I'm picturing myself, surrounded by books, furiously typing my dissertation...in a peaceful corner, unlike the chaotic library mayhem I imagine. Seriously though, any tips are appreciated. It's gotta be better than battling for a plug socket at my current cramped apartment.

theres a spot in the basement of the admin building, room b107. its technically a faculty lounge but they never lock it and i've seen students in there all the time. has these big leather chairs and total silence, feels like a secret. just act like u belong and nobody bothers u

Before the 7 AM rush, definitely. Sogang's library is *insane* busy later in the day. Think pre-coffee zombie apocalypse levels of competition. Alternatively, check out some of the smaller libraries around the campus, there are a few smaller, affiliated ones that tend to be a lot less crowded. They might not be as glamorous, but peace and quiet wins over aesthetics any day, especially when you're trying to write a dissertation. Also, explore the cafes around Hapjeong station; some have quieter corners or second floors that are surprisingly good for focused work. Good luck with the dissertation!

fwiw theres a study space on the 3rd floor of the student union building that most people walk past cause they think its just a lounge. it has these cubicle desks with dividers and i've pulled all nighters there no problem. also if u dont mind a 5 min walk theres a little cafe called 로스팅플랜트 behind the west gate that opens at 7am and has this upstairs loft area with like 4 tables. their americano is 3500 won and they dont care if u sit there for hours with just one drink

honestly i'd skip the main library entirely and head to the little study pavilion behind the science building. it's got like 20 desks max and nobody knows about it because it's tucked behind some bushes. i used to go there at like 10am and always found a spot. also theres a 24hr study room near the back gate of the campus, right next to that convenience store. it's got these old wooden tables that are actually pretty nice. just bring a jacket cause the ac is always on max

If you don't mind a short walk, check out the reading room at Mapo Library. It's a public library about ten minutes away and way calmer than campus spots, plus no weird noodle smell.
