**🎆 New Year Kickoff** January starts with the citywide New Year's light show along the Sanjiangkou waterfront, where the three rivers meet. Expect large crowds and a festive atmosphere; arrive by 10 PM for the best views. The show runs from 8 PM to midnight on January 1st, with metro lines running extended hours until 1 AM. **🏮 Spring Lantern Festival** In February, the Lantern Festival (February 22, 2026) illuminates the Old Town around Gulou Tower with traditional paper lanterns and riddle contests. The area is pedestrian-only during the event, so plan to walk from the nearby Dongmenkou metro station. Arrive early to avoid the heaviest crowds, and try the local tangyuan (sweet rice balls) sold at street stalls. **🌸 Cherry Blossom Season** March brings the Cherry Blossom Festival at the Ningbo Botanical Garden, typically peaking in the third week. The garden opens at 8 AM, and entrance costs 30 RMB; weekdays are quieter than weekends. Bring a picnic mat and enjoy the hanami-style viewing under the trees, but note that drones are prohibited. **🐉 Qingming Ancestral Rites** In early April, Qingming Festival (April 5, 2026) sees locals honoring ancestors at Tianyi Pavilion and nearby family tombs. While not a tourist event, you can observe traditional rituals and offerings at the pavilion's memorial hall. The site is open 8:30 AM to 5 PM, and admission is 30 RMB; expect a solemn, respectful atmosphere. **🚣 Dragon Boat Races** June's Dragon Boat Festival (June 19, 2026) features thrilling races on Dongqian Lake, with teams from across the province competing. The best viewing spots are along the eastern shore, accessible by bus 901 from the city center. Arrive by 9 AM to secure a spot, and don't miss the zongzi (sticky rice dumplings) sold by vendors. **🎶 Summer Music Nights** July and August host the Ningbo Summer Music Festival at the Ningbo Cultural Plaza, with free outdoor concerts every Friday and Saturday evening. Performances range from traditional Chinese opera to modern indie bands, starting at 7 PM. Bring a blanket to sit on the lawn, and check the plaza's website for the lineup. **🌕 Mid-Autumn Moon** September's Mid-Autumn Festival (September 25, 2026) is celebrated with mooncake tastings and lantern displays at Yuehu Lake Park. The park stays open until 10 PM, and the lanterns are lit after sunset, creating a magical reflection on the water. Join the locals in writing wishes on paper lanterns and releasing them into the sky, but be mindful of fire safety rules. **🎃 Autumn Harvest Fair** October brings the Ningbo Agricultural Harvest Fair at the Ningbo International Convention Center, showcasing local produce and crafts. The fair runs from October 1 to 7, 10 AM to 6 PM, and entry is free. Sample fresh seafood and seasonal fruits, and watch live cooking demonstrations by local chefs.
