nice write-up, really solid list. one thing i'd add is that the ningbo embroidery research institute also does custom pieces if you bring them a photo or design, i had them make a small wall hanging with a lotus for my mom last year and it turned out gorgeous, took about two weeks and cost 300 RMB. also if you're around on a sunday morning, the antique market near the moon lake park has some older embroidery pieces that people sell from their own collections, prices are negotiable and you can find some real unique stuff for like 50-100 RMB. just make sure to check for damage since they're not always stored well

oh nice list, you covered most of the classics. one thing i'd add is the dried bamboo shoots from the Siming mountain area, they sell them at the farmer's market near the Drum Tower on weekends. they're way cheaper than the tourist shops and the old ladies there will let you taste before buying, usually like 20-30 kuai for a big bag. tbh the tangyuan from the food store is fine but if you can find the little stall on Yongshou Street near the old temple they make them fresh and they're way softer, just eat them there since they don't travel great. also those bone wooden combs at Lao Waitan, the ones with the wave pattern are the real deal, i got one three years ago and it still hasn't split on me.

i've been buying ningbai from the brewery store on yongfeng road for years, and they also sell a aged version that's been stored for five years or so, it's about 150 RMB a bottle and way smoother than the regular stuff. if you're planning to cook with it, the regular 80 RMB bottle is fine for braising pork belly or steaming crab, but the aged one is better for drinking warm on a cold evening. also, the gold and silver crafts store on jiefang south road has a small workshop in the back where you can watch them do the filigree work, they don't advertise it but if you ask they'll let you peek through the doorway.

The guide's spot on about Haishu being the cultural core, but don't overlook the Drum Tower area for breakfast. There's a tiny stall right under the tower arch selling tangyuan, the local glutinous rice balls, for about $1.50 a bowl. It's a proper Ningbo morning ritual, better than any hotel buffet.

For the metro tip, the last train from the airport is earlier than you'd think, around 10:20 PM on weekdays. If you land after that, the airport bus to the city center costs $2 and runs until midnight, drops you near Tianyi Square, then a short taxi gets you anywhere in Haishu. Saves you a chunk compared to the direct taxi fare.

One thing nobody mentions: the riverwalk between the Old Bund and the Tianyi Pavilion is a great evening stroll, especially around dusk when the lights come on. It's free, uncrowded, and gives you a sense of the city without the noise. Pair it with a night drink at one of the quieter bars in the Old Bund, not the main strip ones.

Good write-up, the district split really does match how the city feels. I'd add that for anyone flying in, the metro from the airport is fine during the day, but the airport shuttle bus is actually the better bet if you're carrying luggage, it drops you right at the train station and you can grab a cab from there for a couple bucks, less hassle than dragging bags through two transfers.

Also, if you're into seafood, skip the restaurants near the Old Bund and head to the Dongqian Lake area on the eastern edge of Yinzhou, there's a string of family-run places along the shore that do the daily catch, the razor clams and salted crab are incredible, and it's maybe $15 a head if you go with a local who knows what to order. The lake itself is worth a morning too, you can rent a boat for $5 and it's way quieter than the city sights.

One thing the guide doesn't mention: most mid-range hotels in Ningbo include breakfast, but the spread varies wildly. The Nanyuan's is famous, but the Ibis one is just toast and instant noodles. Check the reviews before booking, or just plan to eat out, the tangyuan stall under the Drum Tower is a better start to the day anyway.

solid guide, the district breakdown is pretty accurate. one thing i'd add for first timers: the Tianyi Square area is great but it gets loud at night, especially on weekends when the plaza fills up with dancers and street vendors. if you're a light sleeper, ask for a room facing away from the square or just go with the Ibis, it's tucked back enough that it's tolerable.

also, don't sleep on the Old Bund in Haishu. it's way less touristy than the Shanghai one, and the riverside bars are actually chill for a late drink. the Ningbo Old Bund Hotel you mentioned is solid, but if you want something cheaper, there's a small family-run spot called Jiuquan Hostel a few streets behind it, like $20 a night, basic but clean and the owner speaks a little English.

for the metro tip, Line 2 from the airport is fine, but if you land late and the train's done (last one's around 10:30 PM), a taxi to Haishu will run you about $10 max. and honestly, skip the Hilton unless you need the gym, the breakfast buffet at Nanyuan is way better and it's the same price range.
