🗺️ Arrival and Orientation
Most travelers arrive via Namangan Airport (NMA), about 10 km from the city center. A taxi to the center costs around 20,000-30,000 UZS and takes 15-20 minutes. For orientation, head to the central Bobur Square, where you can pick up a city map at the information kiosk (open 9:00-18:00).

🕌 Day 1: Historic Core
Start at the 18th-century Mulla Kyrgyz Madrasah on Uychi Street, open 8:00-17:00 (free entry). Walk 10 minutes to the Namangan Regional Museum (address: 1 Bobur Street) to see local artifacts, open 9:00-17:00, closed Mondays, entry 10,000 UZS. Lunch at the nearby Chorsu Bazaar, where a bowl of lagman costs about 15,000 UZS. In the afternoon, explore the Khodja Amin Mosque and the ancient Afsona amusement park, both within a 15-minute walk.

🌳 Day 2: Parks and Bazaars
Begin at the Navoi Park (open 24 hours, free) for a morning stroll among fountains and Soviet-era statues. Then take a 10-minute taxi (about 10,000 UZS) to the sprawling Chorsu Bazaar, the city's main market, open daily 7:00-19:00. Sample fresh non bread and seasonal fruits; a kilogram of apricots in June costs around 8,000 UZS. After lunch, visit the nearby Babur Park and the Namangan city administration building, both within walking distance.

🏞️ Day 3: Day Trip to Chust
Take a shared taxi from Namangan's North Bus Station to Chust, a 45-minute ride (about 15,000 UZS per person). In Chust, visit the Chust Knife Factory (address: 1 Mustaqillik Street) to see traditional knife-making, open 9:00-18:00, closed Sundays. Return to Namangan by 16:00 and spend the evening at the Oromgoh restaurant (on Navoi Street) for a farewell dinner of shashlik and fresh salad, around 50,000 UZS per person.

🚌 Getting Around
Namangan has a network of buses and shared taxis (marshrutkas) that cover most areas; a single ride costs 1,500-2,000 UZS. Taxis are plentiful and cheap: a 10-minute ride within the center is about 10,000-15,000 UZS. For day trips, use the North Bus Station for departures to Chust and other regional towns. Walking is pleasant in the central districts, but be prepared for uneven sidewalks.

🍽️ Where to Eat
For authentic plov, try the Plov Center near the Chorsu Bazaar (open 8:00-14:00, around 25,000 UZS per plate). The Oromgoh restaurant on Navoi Street serves excellent shashlik and local wines, with mains from 30,000 UZS. For a quick snack, grab a hot somsa from the street vendors near Bobur Square for 5,000 UZS. Vegetarians will find fresh salads and lagman at the Navoi Park cafe.

🏨 Where to Stay
The central area around Bobur Square offers the widest range of accommodation. Hotel Namangan (address: 10 Navoi Street) has double rooms from 250,000 UZS per night, including breakfast. For budget travelers, the Ziyo Guesthouse (near the Chorsu Bazaar) offers dorm beds for 80,000 UZS. Book ahead in spring and autumn, as these are peak seasons.

💡 Practical Tips
The local currency is the Uzbek som (UZS); exchange money at banks or official exchange offices, as ATMs are limited outside the center. Carry cash for bazaars and small cafes, as credit cards are rarely accepted. Learn a few Uzbek phrases like 'rahmat' (thank you) and 'qancha?' (how much?) to connect with locals. The best time to visit is April to June or September to October, when temperatures are mild.

Skip the Plov Center after 1pm since teh good stuff runs out early and Namangan plov is lighter than Samarkand style, less grease.

did chust as a day trip last spring & the shared taxis leave when full so budget extra time at the north bus station, not the 45 min listed. the knife factory is worth it but bring small bills, they dont break big som easily. also the bazaar in chust itself is quieter than namangan chorsu & better for knives honestly

solid writeup. one thing missing is the taxi situation at the airport, drivers there quote 50000+ to foreigners so walk out to the road & flag one or use yandex go if it works on ur sim. also try the tea at a chaikhana near the bazaar, way better than any cafe

🌳 Stroll Through Babur Park
Babur Park is the green heart of Namangan, named after the founder of the Mughal Empire who was born in the nearby Fergana Valley. Locals come here to ride the Ferris wheel, rent rowboats on the pond, and escape the summer heat under towering trees. The park is free to enter and stays open late, making it a perfect spot for an evening walk. You'll find it along Navoi Street, a short walk from the city center.

🕌 Explore the Old City
The historic quarter around the Chorsu Bazaar is where Namangan's soul lives. Wander the narrow streets to see traditional Uzbek houses with carved wooden doors and painted shutters. The area is also home to the 18th-century Mulla Kyrgyz Madrasah, which now houses a small museum of local history. Entry costs around 10,000 som, and it's open from 9 AM to 5 PM daily except Sundays.

🍢 Taste the Local Flavors
Namangan is famous across Uzbekistan for its shashlik, especially the lamb skewers grilled over charcoal at the Chorsu Bazaar. For a sit-down meal, head to the Chaikhana on Navoi Street, where you can try traditional plov and samsa fresh from the tandoor. Prices are very reasonable: a full meal with tea usually costs under 50,000 som. Don't miss the local honey and dried fruits sold at the bazaar.

🎨 Discover Local Crafts
The Namangan region is known for its vibrant atlas silk and traditional ceramics. Visit the artisans' workshops near the bazaar to see silk weaving and pottery demonstrations. The best place to buy authentic souvenirs is the Chorsu Bazaar, where you can bargain for hand-painted plates and embroidered suzani. Prices are negotiable, so don't be afraid to haggle politely.

🚡 Ride the Cable Car
For a panoramic view of the city and the surrounding Fergana Valley, take the cable car up to the top of the Namangan TV Tower hill. The ride costs about 20,000 som round trip and operates from 10 AM to 8 PM. At the top, there's a viewing platform and a small cafe where you can enjoy tea while taking in the scenery. It's a great way to orient yourself in the city.

🏛️ Visit the Local Museums
The Namangan Regional Museum of Local Lore on Uychi Street offers a deep dive into the area's history, from ancient Fergana Valley civilizations to the Soviet era. Exhibits include archaeological finds, traditional clothing, and displays on the region's famous fruit farming. Entry is 15,000 som, and guided tours in English can be arranged for an extra fee. It's a quiet, informative stop, especially on hot afternoons.

🍇 Join a Fruit Festival
Namangan is often called the fruit capital of Uzbekistan, and if you visit in late summer, you might catch one of the local melon or grape festivals. These events pop up in Babur Park and the central square, featuring tastings, music, and dancing. Even without a festival, the bazaar is overflowing with seasonal fruits like peaches, apricots, and the famous Namangan melons. A kilo of grapes in August costs as little as 5,000 som.

🚌 Getting Around Town
Namangan is compact and easy to navigate. Shared taxis (marshrutkas) cost around 2,000 som per ride and cover most of the city, while Yandex Taxi works well for door-to-door trips starting at 10,000 som. The main bus station is on Navoi Street, with connections to Tashkent and other Fergana Valley cities. Renting a bicycle is another option, with several rental shops near Babur Park charging about 20,000 som per hour.

Margilan's Sunday animal bazaar, if you're already out that way.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

worth timing ur trip for the kovun (melon) season around august, the bazaar melons there genuinely beat anything i've had elsewhere

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

solid list, id add the honey bazaar on the edge of town if ur into that, its a whole separate market from chorsu
