🍽️ Where to Start
Begin your food journey at Chorsu Bazaar, the central market where vendors sell fresh produce, spices, and prepared foods. Try the non (Uzbek bread) baked in tandir ovens, and sample qazi (horse sausage) if you're adventurous. For a sit-down meal, head to Milliy Taomlar near the bazaar, serving classic Uzbek dishes like plov and lagman at around 25,000-40,000 UZS per plate.

🍲 Must-Try Dishes
Namangan is famous for its plov, often considered among the best in Uzbekistan. Don't miss shivit oshi, a local specialty of green dill noodles topped with yogurt and meat, found at many eateries. Also try the Namangan-style somsa, a flaky pastry filled with meat and onions, sold at street stalls for about 5,000 UZS each.

🥩 Best Plov Spots
For authentic plov, visit the Plov Center near the Namangan bus station, where large cauldrons cook the dish daily from 8 AM until it runs out, usually by 2 PM. A hearty portion costs around 30,000 UZS. Another favorite is Osh Markazi on Navoi Street, known for its rich flavor and tender meat, priced similarly.

🍢 Street Food Stalls
The area around the Namangan railway station is bustling with street food stalls in the evenings. Look for shashlik (grilled skewers) at 10,000-15,000 UZS per skewer, and hot tea to accompany. Also try the local version of hot dogs and hamburgers, a nod to the city's growing fast-food scene, at stands along Boburshoh Street.

🍜 Local Noodle Shops
For a taste of shivit oshi, head to Shivit Oshi Markazi on Istiqlol Street, where a bowl costs around 20,000 UZS. The dish features green noodles made with dill juice, topped with qatiq (yogurt) and meat. Another spot is Lagman House on Navoi Street, serving hand-pulled lagman noodles for about 25,000 UZS.

🍰 Sweet Treats and Desserts
Satisfy your sweet tooth at the Chorsu Bazaar, where you can find halva, honey, and traditional sweets like pashmak (cotton candy) and chak-chak. For a sit-down dessert, visit the Ice Cream Parlor on Navoi Street, offering local and imported ice cream for around 10,000 UZS per scoop. Don't leave without trying the local baklava, available at bakeries for about 8,000 UZS per piece.

🕒 Best Times to Eat
Most restaurants open around 9 AM and close by 10 PM, but plov is best eaten early, between 8 AM and noon. Street food stalls typically start operating in the late afternoon and continue until midnight. During Ramadan, many places adjust hours, so check locally.

💰 Budget and Prices
A casual meal at a local eatery costs between 20,000 and 50,000 UZS, while street food snacks are around 5,000-15,000 UZS. Mid-range restaurants charge 50,000-100,000 UZS per person. Keep cash on hand, as many smaller places don't accept cards.

shivit oshi at the little family spots near the bazaar beats the big names, noodles actually taste of dill

Been to Namangan twice and the somsa is what I still think about. Skip the fancy places and hit the tandir bakeries on Uychi Street around 7am, they pull them out hot and you eat standing there for like 4k each. Also the tea houses near the bazaar do a killer kazy with fresh bread if you get there before the afternoon rush. Good guide overall, saving this for next trip.

🗺️ Arrival and Orientation
Most travelers arrive via Namangan Airport (NMA), about 10 km from the city center. A taxi to the center costs around 20,000-30,000 UZS and takes 15-20 minutes. For orientation, head to the central Bobur Square, where you can pick up a city map at the information kiosk (open 9:00-18:00).

🕌 Day 1: Historic Core
Start at the 18th-century Mulla Kyrgyz Madrasah on Uychi Street, open 8:00-17:00 (free entry). Walk 10 minutes to the Namangan Regional Museum (address: 1 Bobur Street) to see local artifacts, open 9:00-17:00, closed Mondays, entry 10,000 UZS. Lunch at the nearby Chorsu Bazaar, where a bowl of lagman costs about 15,000 UZS. In the afternoon, explore the Khodja Amin Mosque and the ancient Afsona amusement park, both within a 15-minute walk.

🌳 Day 2: Parks and Bazaars
Begin at the Navoi Park (open 24 hours, free) for a morning stroll among fountains and Soviet-era statues. Then take a 10-minute taxi (about 10,000 UZS) to the sprawling Chorsu Bazaar, the city's main market, open daily 7:00-19:00. Sample fresh non bread and seasonal fruits; a kilogram of apricots in June costs around 8,000 UZS. After lunch, visit the nearby Babur Park and the Namangan city administration building, both within walking distance.

🏞️ Day 3: Day Trip to Chust
Take a shared taxi from Namangan's North Bus Station to Chust, a 45-minute ride (about 15,000 UZS per person). In Chust, visit the Chust Knife Factory (address: 1 Mustaqillik Street) to see traditional knife-making, open 9:00-18:00, closed Sundays. Return to Namangan by 16:00 and spend the evening at the Oromgoh restaurant (on Navoi Street) for a farewell dinner of shashlik and fresh salad, around 50,000 UZS per person.

🚌 Getting Around
Namangan has a network of buses and shared taxis (marshrutkas) that cover most areas; a single ride costs 1,500-2,000 UZS. Taxis are plentiful and cheap: a 10-minute ride within the center is about 10,000-15,000 UZS. For day trips, use the North Bus Station for departures to Chust and other regional towns. Walking is pleasant in the central districts, but be prepared for uneven sidewalks.

🍽️ Where to Eat
For authentic plov, try the Plov Center near the Chorsu Bazaar (open 8:00-14:00, around 25,000 UZS per plate). The Oromgoh restaurant on Navoi Street serves excellent shashlik and local wines, with mains from 30,000 UZS. For a quick snack, grab a hot somsa from the street vendors near Bobur Square for 5,000 UZS. Vegetarians will find fresh salads and lagman at the Navoi Park cafe.

🏨 Where to Stay
The central area around Bobur Square offers the widest range of accommodation. Hotel Namangan (address: 10 Navoi Street) has double rooms from 250,000 UZS per night, including breakfast. For budget travelers, the Ziyo Guesthouse (near the Chorsu Bazaar) offers dorm beds for 80,000 UZS. Book ahead in spring and autumn, as these are peak seasons.

💡 Practical Tips
The local currency is the Uzbek som (UZS); exchange money at banks or official exchange offices, as ATMs are limited outside the center. Carry cash for bazaars and small cafes, as credit cards are rarely accepted. Learn a few Uzbek phrases like 'rahmat' (thank you) and 'qancha?' (how much?) to connect with locals. The best time to visit is April to June or September to October, when temperatures are mild.

Skip the Plov Center after 1pm since teh good stuff runs out early and Namangan plov is lighter than Samarkand style, less grease.

did chust as a day trip last spring & the shared taxis leave when full so budget extra time at the north bus station, not the 45 min listed. the knife factory is worth it but bring small bills, they dont break big som easily. also the bazaar in chust itself is quieter than namangan chorsu & better for knives honestly

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

solid writeup. one thing missing is the taxi situation at the airport, drivers there quote 50000+ to foreigners so walk out to the road & flag one or use yandex go if it works on ur sim. also try the tea at a chaikhana near the bazaar, way better than any cafe
