Makro Mayhem?

I thought I was prepared, shopping list, reusable bags, the works. Turns out, navigating those aisles is a whole other level of intense. It's like a giant warehouse of everything, and the sheer volume of stuff is overwhelming. I spent ages trying to find simple things, getting lost in a sea of industrial-sized ketchup bottles and bulk bags of rice. My question is: Any tips for surviving a Makro shopping trip without losing your mind or your wallet?

honestly the best tip is to skip the main aisles entirely and head straight for the restaurant supply section in the back corner. that's where they keep the smaller packs of spices and sauces that normal people can actually use before they expire. the front of the store is just marketing for tourists and people with deep freezers. also if you're buying rice, the 5kg bag from the jasmine brand is usually cheaper per kilo than the giant 20kg sacks when you factor in storage and potential weevils.

One thing nobody mentions is that Makro has different vibes depending on which location you hit. The one on Srinakarin is more organized than the Bang Na branch, which feels like a free-for-all. Also, bring your own marker or a piece of chalk for the price tags, because the staff with the sticker guns are always nowhere to be found when you change your mind about something.

fwiw the trick is not going alone on a weekend. go on a weekday morning around 9am when it's mostly restaurant owners restocking, way less chaotic. also skip the membership card line if you're not a business, just use the cash counter at the far left, the one nobody knows about. and bring your own pen for the price tags, saves u from hunting down the staff with the sticker gun every time u change your mind

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
